At Mix 'n' Mojo forums, a little thread has started regarding bugs and problems that can be fixed by the community at large in Monkey Island 2 Special Edition. Generally, people feel that the MIDI music is lacking, and so do I. No bass, weak drums, trumpets made from digitised fart noises.
A couple of guys have raised the idea that authentic MT-32 music would be the best way forward, however, no one in the entire history of Monkey Island fandom has ever ripped the Monkey Island 2 soundtrack in MT-32. wat.
So, if anyone here at GOG has a real MT-32 card and would like to help out, let me know. All you have to do is rip the music and we'll do the hard work of packing it back into the game.
There's no guarantee that the repack will actually work, but rest assured that you'd be the first person to ever record a "proper" Monkey Island 2 soundtrack.

But the music has already been ripped on a Roland MT-32. There's a few videos on YT with that music.
Also, i've found a torrent of MI2 music, ripped via MT32, in FLAC!
How good is that?

That same guy did a DOOM/DOOM 2 rip that sounds incredible.

Oh now that is good news. I'll discuss it at Mojo to see if they're ok with us distributing a pack of that music, if I can find it (maybe you can hint as to where it is).

Found the rip. It's a set of mastered rips by none other than LogicDeluxe of Mix 'n' Mojo forums, involved with the music replacement. However, they've been modified too much to be considered original. I'll have a chat with Logic and see if he can re-rip the tracks unmodified.

Logic is a better bet but I do own a couple of MT-32's and could potentially be interested in helping out. I did something similar for the floppy version of Monkey Island 1 adding in a recorded MT-32 soundtrack in scummVM but that was a lot easier than MI2 would be as all the music was static. How is this going to work with imuse?

Right, the way the SE does it is by having the iMUSE fades as prerecorded tracks. You would have to extract the soundbank (easy) and pay careful attention to the parts of the soundtrack have been recorded in what way, ripping the MT-32 tracks in exactly the same way. It would be pretty difficult. I'll have to chat more at Mix 'n' Mojo to find out exactly what would need to be done (from the more technical people).
Also, I'd be interested in hearing this rip of SoMI if you're happy to share it.
Actually, the original CD gamefiles exist in the SE. If you extract monkey2.pak and look in the classic folder, compare the MD5 sums, you'll find that the monkey2.00x files are identical to the CD release. So yes, it's a proper remake.
The audio is stored in "Xbox Wavebanks" as wav files at one of three codecs bwing ADPCM, xWMA and XMA. Proprietary, yes. But open. We use the XNA Game Studio to convert what needs to be lossless files to ADPCM and create a new wavebank. By matching the dwords and other hex-ey type stuff (bgbennyboy handles all that), we essentially create a clone of the original wavebank with new content inside. We've already run tests and are certain it will work.

All the soundtracks I've done are at [url=]http://www.pix.oneuk.com[/url]. I've only done them very quickly to hack them into scummVM. I'd take more care with something like this if I ended up doing it.
What you are describing with MI2 sounds possible as long as there are matches in the original soundtrack for everything that is in the new one. I've not actually bought the new MI2 yet so I've not heard it. I'm guessing there will be problems and you could really do with someone who can compose and edit MIDI.
Does the new soundtrack layer tracks on top of each other or fade between tracks? i.e. when you approach the voodoo lady's shack does it have loads of tracks with one instrument each or a series of tracks with more instruments added to them that it fades between.
