The Master Thief is back--you never saw that coming!

No, really. You literally did not see that coming.

Thief: Deadly Shadows, the ultimate tension-fueled stealth experience, is available on GOG.com for $9.99 with the soundtrack, design sketches, avatars, wallpapers, and the manual all included!

GOG.com is incredibly happy to complete the most acclaimed and loved PC stealth series ever developed--the Thief series. [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/thief_gold]Thief Gold and Thief II: The Metal Age have been both voted 5-star-perfect games by our community (thanks for the votes!) and Thief: Deadly Shadows is a strong contender for yet another entry on your “best of the best” lists. The third installment, a worthy and mighty successor, does not change what’s exceptional about Garrett’s adventure--stealth-based gameplay that uses silence and shadows as your main weapons--but it does add a few twists, like seeing Garrett’s limbs from first-person perspective, non-linear exploration of the City and secondary missions, Wall Climbing Gloves, a variety of gameplay (Break & Enter, Steal, Combat, Ambush and Assassinate), and, what’s best, an improved AI that will now seek and hear you more easily, track evidence, and even chase and fight you to the end.

Thief: Deadly Shadows has been especially praised for its exceptionally refined standard of lighting, graphics, level design, and--of course--immersive gameplay. Sound effects, music, and voice acting are top-notch, and the game looks and feels better than ever with a dynamic lighting and shadow system, and the possibility to switch between first person and third person mode. The story, the dark and tense atmosphere, the visual appearance, the thrill--everything you wished for in a 3D sneaker is here. There’s only one thing no one should see--it’s Garrett, hidden in deadly shadows.

Thief: Deadly Shadows is a gaming ambush that will steal your free time and assassinate your desire for playing other games. You don’t have to break & enter to grab this gem from GOG.com for only $9.99.

What's this one like compared to Thief 2 (community patch modded of course)? I love the second one, and think in terms of Ion Storm's work it's almost better than Deus Ex, but just my opinion.

Prettier, but ultimately somewhat simpler and shallower. It's definitely lacking something (most notably the brilliant cutscenes), but it's very much worth playing if you liked the other games.

Kind of like Deus Ex: Invisible War compared to the original Deus Ex, but Deadly Shadows is overall a considerably better game than Invisible War.

Short answer is that if you liked the previous games and give this one an honest chance, you should enjoy it.

Medium answer is that they "broke" a lot of stuff. Many features will likely bother you... alot! But, its still Thief and lots of fun if you can get past the changes. Most atrocious changes are the breaking apart of levels and putting loading zones in... even in the "open" city. Body awareness was a selling feature that lead most in search of how to turn it off. Ragdoll physics is another selling feature that was done horribly and takes away far more than it adds. Dynamic shadows are really well done in places, but in others they are "accomplished" by gimmicks or static shadows. Rope arrow is removed, inventory items got a cap, loot glint was added.

Neat changes are the addition of the fences that you actually must visit in order to sell. The carryover of loot from mission to mission. The addition of "days" as the story progresses. Each new day means another pass through the "open" city. Some neat new tools, like the oil flask. New lockpick mini-game.

Controls are very different overall in terms of response.

The story, lore, ambiance, voicing, music, and overall enjoyment are all still in this game... you just have to ignore some "changes" that you may not enjoy.
Wow another stealth game on this service. Now I have never played the series but tell which is considered the best Thief game in the same way tha chaos theory is the best splinter cell

Thanks for the information, I still have a bunch of custom maps the Taffer patch added to play in Thief 2, so I'll just install this one and save it for a rainy day.

Now we just need Konami to come over to GOG and put up the Metal Gear Solid 1 PC port :)

IMO the best metal gear solid game stealth wise is the 3DS version of Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater
Awesome! Will most certainly be buying this and promptly replaying it. I still don't know why it gets so much flack. Sure if has smaller levels and some annoying things and gimmicks but the devs really managed to turn otherwise maddening limitations (for a Thief game anyway) into positive aspects IMO.

FraterPerdurabo: Fantastic release, or so I assume from all of the banter!

I haven't played any of Thief games. Which one would be the right one to start with?
You should play them chronologically, they´re story-centered.
Developers intended it that way, because they´re not recapitulating anything at the beginning of the T2 . Same goes for T3.

Oh, and by the way: YES! Thank you, GOG!

This was my first (and so far only) experience with the Thief games, but I love it. It's got great atmosphere, good voice acting, and is a lot of fun, as long you have patience.
Invisible War & Deadly Shadows were basically ports from the Xbox 1, hence the shrunken levels and console-like features. Great games but not as strong as their designed-for-PC prequels.
This is great news - one of the few games i really liked on my old xbox :) One thing i would like to know - has the GOG version had any optimising, tweaking etc. done as this game is notoriously awful to get up and running (along with deus ex invisible war which uses the same engine afaik). I installed both of these games (on my vista 32 bit core2duo 2.33 ghz system) from retail dvd versions about a year ago and both failed to even get to a title screen - just inky blackness and maybe a stuttering sound now and again. I feel bad being the first one to get all technical in this thread but i would really love a working pc version of this game!
This game is fucking awesome, I don't care how "consolized" it is. It's got great stealth, perfect design and of course the great Thief setting.

I own it like 4 times already so I will wait for a sale, but seriously... amazing game.

keeveek: I just wanted to say I love the new release schedule. I have nothing against indie games or AAA titles on GOG when they don't forget about releasing classic titles.

Good work GOG, good work.
Totally agree with you!

I loved it as well, despite it's issues

I just hope Thief 4 will be good...
