La Mulana, a challenging free-form platformer in ancient Mayan ruins, is now available on GOG.com for only $9.99. That's 33% off the regular price until Thursday, October 11 at 10:59 AM GMT.

The ancient Mayan city of La-Mulana is said to hold innumerous secrets. The mysterious tribe guarding it from the outside world claims that the ancient knowledge locked within the forgotten tombs holds the key to understanding the purpose and origin of life itself. A daring young archeologist by the name of Lameza Kosugi--an Indiana Jones lookalike with Japanese roots--takes on the quest to unravel the mystery of the foreboding ruins. With his trusty whip (standard archeology-issue) and a vintage "Mobile Super X" laptop, he ventures into the unknown. Some say that he might be the chosen one. Otherwise the tribe of protectors wouldn't let him go anywhere near the ruins. True question remains: does he really have what it takes to face the treacherous traps, menacing monsters, and gigantic guardians of La-Mulana?

The original low-res version of La Mulana met with critical acclaim as one of the most difficult and elaborate indie platformers of the 2000s. Its high-res remake delivers the same challenge and scale but this time with colorful pixel-art graphics your eyes can feast upon. Gamers worldwide fell in love with La-Mulana's free-form archeological action/exploration gameplay. Now it's your turn to put on an adventurer's hat, grab that handy whip, and set off for the huge Mayan ruins, that hold the secret of the origin of life on Earth. Don't miss out on one of the greatest challenges for the fans of platformer genre!

Search every corner of the ancient ruins, reach seemingly unreachable platforms, and defeat many fearsome guardians to uncover the secret of La Mulana, for the launch promo price of only $9.99!

Barry_Woodward: Cave Story, Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night and Super Metroid.

HiPhish: I wouldn't put the latter two anywhere near Cave Story; tried the demo and it was a game about talking with poorly drawn dogs. Super metroid and Castlaviania SotN dropped you right into the game and that was it. I'm going to wait and see if La Mulana is like a classic Metroid or one of those modern indy imposters that people mistake for old-school just because of low resolution graphics.
Cave Story still occupies roughly the same sub-genre as Super Metroid & Castlevania SOTN though, and as far as level design goes, it is almost on par with those two. Don't judge the game by its puppies!
Also, La Mulana has been out for quite a while, and a lot of people have already judged this version as "worthy". Much like Cave Story, it was the original games popularity that prompted a commercially released re-make.
Oh wow, this looks like it could be my new Cave Story. Wishlisted for now, since I'm broke.
Nice! Looks like Rick Dangerous! Ahh Happy Memories ;)

Wishlisted for now

You could simply play the original for now. http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=lamulana
Get the game, hit it with the patch, and voila - English, by the same guys who translated the original Cave Story.
Awesome release, too bad I'm broke right now.

SirPrimalform: Demo? The game is freeware.
There was a demo on WiiWare, I guess it was a commercial re-release or something. I just remember that there were these dogs and I had to talk to them and couldn't get anywhere. I hate that sort of game, just get me to the damn adventure, your story sucks anyway.

How about the X360 gamepad support in this game? Also great La Mulana Checker, GOG. Is this app your work?
Instabought. It saddens me that Fearless Challenger isn't on the soundtrack sample.
AWESOME! If I get the money for this soon, I need to get this. I wish I had the money to get it while it was on sale, though. :/
I remember playing the original La Mulana. I think it was the first Indie game I played other than Cave Story back then. I could never figure out how to play the game but now I'm going back to playing this game.

Xbox 360 pad support should be in the game and the La Mulana Checker isn't our work, that's a gift from the publisher :D

Barry_Woodward: Never.

F4LL0UT: "Never" is not a valid answer to that question.
They say that smart people are never bored.

Then again, Schopenhauer said that in life we are either bored or suffering... Huh :|.

Given the difficulty level of La Mulana I do believe that Schopenhauer would find it extremely NOT BORING. ;-)
