Trade, diplomacy, espionage, conquest--and you thought asteroid mining was a simple operation.

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/fragile_allegiance]Fragile Allegiance, an open-ended 4X RTS game made by Gremlin Interactive, is available right now on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Fragile Allegiance employs you in the year 2496 as a asteroid mining operation manager somewhere in The Fragmented Sectors. There are six alien races competing with your mother corporation TetraCorp for precious ore--and it’s your job to out-perform all of them. After selling resources to the Federation, the player has to invest his proceeds in interstellar technology, expansion on other asteroids, ships, weapons, spying, and trading. Diplomacy and espionage play a crucial role, as do non-aggression pacts, joint-combat treaties, blackmail, and special agents. All of these combine to make a difference between ruling the galaxy and being sent on a long slow walk through vacuum.

Fragile Allegiance is an excellent addition to the conquer-the-galaxy genre, a combination of SimCity, Civilization, and Master of Orion with complex diplomacy and challenging AI, now available only at GOG.com for $5.99.
finally home so bought and dl'ing. only neg point I see so far is a slight lack of the bonus content that GOG is/was so good for.

Is that in the works guys or was there no additional content made for this game?

probably not, some games are just lacking extra's.

I figured, I mean dont get me wrong the game is the main reason to buy for me but i like the little additions.
While I certainly knew of its forerunner, K240, although I've never got around to playing it, this one must have escaped me at the time. So, since it is an RTS how frantic does it become? Are there any speed sliders available? Yes, I prefer my 4X games to be turn-based, like most strategy games, so I can take my time deciding. I don't do so well under pressure. I also just read up on its wikipedia entry. Only one playable race/corp? How does that affect replayability? Are there any choices for game world creation parameters?

I'm definitely interested since it seems to be up my alley. 4Xs with sci-fi settings are my favorites: Master of Orion, Alpha Centauri, Ascendancy.

AFnord: Or Utopia: The Creation of a nation
Yes, please add Utopia and its Data Disc, too!
lemmings and zool too right?
I like strategy games, and this one looks certainly interesting, but I have way too many games waiting to be played to get it now.
However, I'm pretty sure I will grab this game later.
Never heard of this title as well. But that doesn´t mean other folks won´t appreciate it. RTS just isn´t my cup of tea.

That's probably why I'm (usually more leaned towards TBS games) so hooked to Utopia - it plays like Sim City in space...not like a typical RTS game...the occasionally attacking aliens are more of a heavy disaster you can fight on the tactical level.
Loved this back in the day, even though I was never any good at it. I'll be curious to revisit and see if it really is that hard, or if my young self just couldn't prioritize properly. :)

dudethatsnotcool: Hmm... is this fully real-time, or pausable like Paradox games?
IIRC there's a pause. What I can't remember is whether or not you can issue build/movement/etc. orders while paused, which would be rather critical to enjoying it in a laid-back manner. Maybe someone who's already bought it can say.

There's still plenty of variety to be had. You can't possibly go after all strategies/blueprints in one game.
iirc, there's three game speeds, and you can choose whether or not the game pauses in menus. The big problem was that (without cheating) you could only choose your settings at the start of the game, and couldn't change them mid way through.

This game doesn't ring any bells to me, which is amazing cos back in the day I was crazy about space colony sims as Alien Legacy and Outpost. So insta-bought and looking forward to relive the memories I should have had about this game.

By the way GOG, AL and the Outpost series would be nice too.
I ... I ... Bloody hell, it was the first proper 4X game I have ever played that I actually enjoyed as well! It's basically an ancestor to Sins of the Solar empire, complete with actually being real-time (it also surpasses SotS in many aspects, for instance you can hire supervisors and give them control of some sectors so you don't have to worry about them.) It's a superb game, especially for me who can't stand turn-based gameplay. The only real disadvantage are controls that are kind of awkward. Still, you can nuke an asteroid (it doesn't have panets, it's got asteroids,) you can hurl one of your asteroids against one of the opponent, you can ... well you can do pretty much whatever the fuck you want. Fantastic piece, fantastic.

LOL....thinks this is a better review than the ones posted for the game ;-). Big fan of Sins and SOTS myself....
