A Triumphant Return of Wonderful Storytelling

Dreamfall, the sequel to The Longest Journey, is a beautiful third-person adventure game for only $14.99 on GOG.com.

The Longest Journey, with its epic story and fantastically portrayed world and characters, was easily one of the best adventure games ever made. Dreamfall, a long-awaited sequel, never fails to deliver a similarly fantastic experience. Taking you a journey through another 13 chapters across the twinned worlds of Stark and Arcadia. However, Dreamfall breaks the expectations with brilliant visual style, breathtaking soundtrack, great voice acting, and challenging game mechanics that require you to think outside the box to complete difficult--but not frustrating--challenges and puzzles. The game offers much less 'action' than most of today's games, but satisfies with mature and intelligent dialogues, gripping story, and and characters who elicit authentic emotions to fascinate and engage any adventure connoisseur.

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey follows three adventurers: Zoë Castillo, a 20-year-old resident of Casablanca in 2219, April Ryan, the main protagonist in the original game (and now the Rebel leader), and Kian Alvane, an Azadi soldier and skilled swordsman in two parallel worlds: the technologically advanced Stark and magical Arcadia. An international conspiracy to introduce lucid dream-inducing technology that could be potentially used to brainwash and control the whole population of Stark needs to be stopped, and it falls upon Zoë, April, and Kian to wright the world’s wrongs.

Dreamfall is a multi-threaded, believable, and engaging adventure with amazing presentation and unique attention to details, and is available now on GOG.com for only $14.99 with wallpapers, avatars, the soundtrack, and 30 gorgeous pieces of digital art.
Relax, they're just starting. Maybe these higher price point and newer game will be included in promo for 70% - 80% off in the future. Need to sort out the paperwork first.
wow :O

Maybe now I need to get this game, been on my to-try-at-some-day -list for like...ages.

*wishlisted for now*

gameon: Sounds like your typical point and click adventure then, lol. It sounds like something i'd play.
Yes, but a lot longer. And with less humor than Discworld or the LucasArts games. ;)

And when I say long dialogues, I mean it. They can last over 5 minutes and you don't have much part in them. Haven't seen any other p&c adventure this worse in that regard. Not saying it's not worth playing, but you definitely need some patience and leniency with its gameplay flaws.

keeveek: So what happened with their "we are going to be the first major alternative to steam" annoucement? ;-)

Without -75, -85 , they will never be an alternative for anybody big.

PS. Gamersgate also makes "promos all the year", because they know it's good.

tfishell: I wondered if, sometimes, we pay a few extra bucks for the extras (soundtrack, mainly); it might be a 9.99 game with a $5 soundtrack. Is the music any good?

Even if extras cost extra, I can't really "take back" my wishlist request. ;) I suppose GOG could start selling the extras separately, but then we might not get ANY free extras. :P

keeveek: Soundtrack for Dreamfall is GREAT.
The following was written in an even level mood. Do not assume it is an attack on anyone personally. It is just something to keep in mind:

GOG is an alternative to Steam because GOG is DRM-FREE. People seem to be forgetting that important bit of information. DRM-FREE!!! You don't need to log on GOG every time you want to play a game. You can actually take your game and install it wherever you want without having to validate it through GOG. Last time I check, you can do that with Steam. Even today, if you buy a PC game on disc, you have to "activate" it through the internet.
Also, if I remember correctly, there was a mention that "newer" games like Dreamfall would probably go above the $9.99 price tag, but that GOG would try their best to make the product worth while.
If this title, with all the extras and DRM-FREE feature are too rich for your blood, maybe Steam is an alternative for GOG. ;)
This has gotten me excited! But I think I'll wait for the sale; 15 bucks is kinda too pricey for an old game. I love Zoe Castillo. And I have a strange obsession with Alvin Peats!

You don't say! That's fantastic news!
I remember the first game being an awesome one. Really.
This one is kind of decent, definitely not on par with the first.
It's really really expensive on stream at 20usd and i think its a little overpriced here on gog too at 15usd. Normal price for this '06 game would have been 10usd, me thinks.

Anyway, nice release, thanks gog!
Research shows (comparing how many games steam is selling, gamersgate is selling compared to GOG) , that most people don't give a flying duck about DRM-free.

Drm-free factor is a very good thing, but not a factor that would make you biggest steam alternative.

I've been wanting this game since it first came out, but i didn't have the money for it.

Then it came out on Steam, but I had already learned about the the DRM and wasn't going to buy it in that condition.

And when the LJ bundle was on Steam for less than $7, I was sorely tempted, but I just told myself, "Sooner or later, GOG will be selling this game. Just be patient."

There are actually many games I have decided not to buy in the hope that GOG would offer them, eventually....

So, when I woke up this morning and took a look at the GOG website, my reaction was one of "FINALLY! My faith has been rewarded!" And then I saw the price, and it was more like, "Oh... Hmm..."

Don't get me wrong, I am not upset at GOG for selling this game at the $15 price point. I know how much the game costs elsewhere because I have resisted buying it for many years. I'm just saying that at $9.99, it would have been an instabuy. As it stands, however, I fully intend to buy this game when it goes on sale.

For now, however, I'm just going to wishlist it. I really am fond of the wishlist feature here on GOG. As someone who has a very limited income, I dunno how I would manage without it.

So what's this like then? I did like the Longest Journey even though I don't generally like adventure games, the 3D style and "sims" look about screens is a little off-putting, but is the story good?
This is a bit expensive. I'll put in in my wishlist and wait for a (big) promo.
Wishlisted here. I have played dreamfall and after completing it, felt unsatisfying. Everything is great about the game but the ending. Hopefully we'll see a conclusion someday.

This is no "research" at all.
This is kind of bizarre :/

The word "research" was used as a joke, dude.
