Whats up guys, today I came across this crowd funding campaign for this awesome game called RamBros

http://www.indiegogo.com/RamBros-Indie-Game

It looks awesome from the videos on there, it's also being developed by 1 of the developers who is also working on Under the Ocean www.UnderTheGarden.com

what do you guys think?
Not impressed. The marketing video needs more work. I want to see all of the game, not some crappy song being played while the game's sounds and music are muted.

Besides that, will I pay $5 for this? Ehh ... not really. From the video, it looks like it belongs on Newgrounds tbh. Maybe for a dollar, but not $5.
I think it might not reach its goal in time.

The video isn't meant to be taken seriously. RamBros is just a side project, when Paul (the dev) isn't working on Under the Ocean.

It's flexible. He gets the money contributed so far, even if the goal isn't met.

Oh now this rings a bell. I remember seeing the trailer and liking it.

I don't think RamBros is my cup of tea, but all the best to Paul.

Another indie game that looks like it belongs on the SNES. Sigh. I didn't like the SNES then, and I don't like it now.

Indie developers today seem hell-bent on sending gaming back 20 years. I'm not nostalgic for the olden days, give me interesting and fun games with decent graphics, games that aren't part of the "retro" craze, games that aren't 2d side scrollers with "16 bit" graphics.
^I like VVVVVV, and it looks like an 8-bit game. I know I said RamBros looks like a Newgrounds game, but really, if it can get the 'feel' right like VVVVVV (late edited for clarity: the 'feel' that it's going for, that sense of satisfaction you get when you play a game), I have no qualms paying $5-$10 for it.

Are you serious?

You didn't like SNES? It's the greatest console of all time.

That means you didn't like Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, Street Fighter II, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, Etc.

You're crazy.

Yes, I'm serious. I grew up with PC gaming, trying to play anything on those consoles was tedium.

When I did play on those consoles, I found the Genesis to utterly pwn the SNES.

After playing games like Half Life and Deus Ex during childhood, the cliched plot and utter lack of an intriguing story in Zelda just didn't work for me. PC games set the bar higher than the consoles would bother to aim.

Looking at all these indie games, it's as though all these programmers missed their calling to be SNES developers and are doing as much as they can to fulfill that calling, short of inventing a time machine and going back to the early 1990s. :(

AAA publishers and developers have been doing a fine job of that already.

As repetative as Halo/Call of Duty/etc were, we didn't have them 20 years ago. We didn't even have Duke Nukem 3d yet. We barely had Wolfenstein 3d. While the consoles that AAA games are optimized for suck (especially to a PC gamer like myself) they're still a helluva lot more powerful than what we had 20 years ago.

When half-life was created, wasn't Valve an "indie" developer at that time? I always thought so, they certainly weren't a huge EA-like conglomerate. So where are the indie games like that? I've long had my fill of unimaginative 2d side scrolling platformers.

gameon: I still enjoy the ps1 versions of final fantasy rather than FF13. So many features have been taken away from the series.

It seems as if the more powerful systems are becoming, the more streamlined and action based they become aswell. I'd rather have some depth to games. Failing that, a fun indie game is just as good as a good old game.
Where is the depth in just another 2d side scroller with "retro" graphics?

You're complaining about games becoming "simpler", which makes them less "fun", yet say that a "simple" indie game is fun. How does that work?

I also enjoy depth in my games. While it wasn't the most profound game ever, Deus Ex: Human Revolution was deeper than any and all of these "retro" indie games I've seen.

I'm surprised that the "indie" market hasn't gotten oversaturated with these "retro" games yet.

So you greatly preferred a console with vast technical inferiorities and a large catalog of identical games minus quality audio and a giant heaping fist full of colors?

As a person that owned and played both consoles extensively, I can't imagine how the math tilts in Sega's favor unless opinion happens to rest completely on console exclusive titles like Sonic, Vectorman, and Ecco. I loved me some Cyborg Justice, but I also regretted every hour(and there were countless) I played SF2T on Genesis and not my SNES. I did not repeat my mistake with Super SF2

...because it makes perfect sense to compare an AAA game which cost millions of dollars to make, with the support of one of the top publishers in the world, with a game made by a couple of bedroom programmers.

Yes, there are several game mechanics and aesthetic styles which are starting to become tired in the video game "indie" realm, but complaining that you're not getting a game like Deus Ex: Human Revolution from a developer like Jonathan Blow would be like going to a local diner and complaining that you're not getting filet mignon from a five star restaurant.

You may as well be comparing the character interaction in Planescape: Torment with that of NFL Blitz or something and using it as an excuse for why console gaming sucks. You obviously just don't like the gameplay from that specific era of console gaming, and that's fine, opinion is subjective. Just don't buy the game.
