Hey guys, I was just wondering if any of you know whether I will be able to purchase some games from this site from the U.K with an English credit card?

Cheers :)

I don't see any issues that should arise in your case

also: welcome to GOG :)
Yeah you are absolutely fine, I use my VISA debit card to purchase my stuff. Bank converts from Dollars to Sterling automatically. Usually works out around £3.80 mark. Bear in mind your bank will probably charge you for an international transaction fee, its £1.50 with my bank (Halifax). Still cheap as chips though and never had any issues whatsoever.

£1.50 is daylight robbery. It costs me around 10p using paypal, that's why I switched.

Good call, I did think that it was a bit pricey and didnt know that Paypal was cheaper. Will pay with my card through Paypal next time.
I use paypal for my purchases here and have not found any problems with using it and the exchange rate seems ok. For instance wing commander 4 cost me £3.91 today.

This. Similar charge with RBS' Visa Debit card, too. PayPal for me!

gameon: I really hope my bank hasn't charged me that much!
I would advise you and other EU members to check was their bank charges for the "Transfer" from one currency to another, it differs from bank to bank and by payment method

My bank I think...charges me 20 cents from every 6 Dollar GOG purchase
Currency conversion charges are supposed to be on their way out. Paypal is one way to avoid the really bloody awful ones. But they've got a charge of their own in the form of a somewhat unfavourable conversion rate.

For instance if you can get 1.59 dollars to the pound then Paypal will probably offer you something more along the lines of 1.52 or thereabouts. But it's still less than most banks when it comes to sums this small.
/rushes off to check his credit card statements ...

Natwest & Halifax are part of the RBS group. Thinking about it £1.50 is pretty steep for a small transaction. Wish GOG would do something with the way purchases are handled in different areas of the world, maybe something for the future. In the meantime Paypal is definately the way forward.

I feel ripped off by my bank now :(

It's a trap! Those reports were talking about using your card to buy currency, as in before going on holiday etc. There are no plans that I've heard of to stop the kind of charges that affect GOG purchases. Perhaps you have another source I don't know of?
Nope, I'm not getting charged any "fee's" just reasonable looking exchange rates.
That's with Abbey.

Thanks for the warning, Akbar. Yeah I thought that it was being scrapped across the board. I don't see why it applies to one thing and not another. It's not really justifiable given it's basically just a different kind of digital digit that's getting changed. It's not like anyone on their staff actually has to do anything.
Paypal here too. I just simply don't buy online unless I can use Paypal.

The fact that I can't use it to buy Android apps just means that I'll never buy an Android app. :/
