overread: jefequeso -- I only speed read through it, but liked what I read of the review itself -- esp the admission that the game just "didn't work for you". I've read a lot of reviews (esp from official/published places) where its quite clear (as a reader) that the reviewer just hasn't "got" the game, but is also unable or unwilling to admit that the reason they rate it low isn't the game itself, but because they didn't really "get it".
Well, my whole schtick is to try and be as objective and fair to games as possible, even if I don't like them. I believe that understanding what the game is trying to accomplish, even if you don't like it, is crucial to writing a review rather than an opinion piece (not that there isn't a strong element of subjectivity to reviewing, because there certainly is). Sadly, it also means that I don't get to go all "Zero Punctuation" on games that I don't like :(
anothername: Its only as offensive as you like it or want it to be.
I'd disagree with that, actually. Even if you manage to complete the game in a non-violent manner, there's still a fair amount of offensiveness. You'll still come across ethnic steryotypes, police brutality, mild homophobia, etc. Nothing really horrible, but enough that the game could still be offputting to some people, even if you try to play it "morally."
