It depends. As it is your contest, you have two options:

a) If you do not "care" about community (active users), and would like to give chance to win also for newcomers or casual users - then yes. But I think you should consider at least November 2011 as minimal registration date to prevent creating fake accounts just to take part in contest.

b) If you "care" about community, and would like only active users to win then no. Alternatively you could create your own reputation system based on opinions of the most reputable users on forum - but this thing could take time and also require some dedication.

It's the root cause of why this thread even exists.

I think you should do exactly the kinds of rules you want. Just ignore him. It's your contest, not Gamerager's.

This is what the rules say:

"On GOG.com forums there's a post rating system in place that is available to all registered users. This allows you to promote the most helpful, insightful or just plain cool posts but also serves as a moderation-by-community feature, as trashy / inappropriate posts that accumulate negative reviews will be “hidden” in the topic. If you feel that one's post rocks, give it a positive rating by clicking on the green plus icon - this will increase that post's rating by 1. In other words, if other members personally think you are talking trash, they are by rules allowed to rate against you.

Sure the rules say that, but if he isnt actually talking shit, then theres no reason to down rate his post, period. The first post GR made in this thread was hidden, i unhide it and read it and theres nothing actually there to warrant the down rate. Why it was down rated is beyond me but like i said the shit with people fucking with him constantly needs to stop. Were all adults here, act like it, and if your not, grow a pair and act like it. We dont need this childish shit here.


Id love it if the Rep system was removed entirely, it doesnt actually promote anything other then people trolling others. Very rarely is it actually used to down rate someone actually talking smack.

OP asked me in PM originally what I was asking in her contest thread, and I guess he mistook what I was asking.

Yes, I originally voiced dislike of the contest rep limit but I dropped that and waited for my rep to hit 20 to enter like everyone else. Then when it hit 20 it dropped back down because of the rep abuse thread, so I asked in the contest thread if I could enter even though my rep was no longer 20, because it had been 20(the contest minimum) at a few points this month despite my current rep.

So I currently wasn't asking for OP to change the rep minimum at all, but if I could enter since I had hit 20 rep this month before going back down, and had technically met the requirements......I didn't want special treatment either, just an answer, yes or no.

BTW I suck at Q3......can I play Q2 instead? Or maybe Unreal Tournament? :)


Ignoring is exactly what any contest holder shouldn't do. It's a sign of rudeness to ignore people in most situations and places, imo. All I wanted was an answer(in PM) to my question, yes or no....up until now I had asked several times and received no answer. I can take a no answer....it's being ignored for no reason after asking simple questions that irked me.

Amusingly, if GameRager stopped bitching about the rep, and the perceived - rightly or wrongly - injustice he feels he is subjected to, his rep would probably stop declining.

I shouldn't be censored via the rep system by anyone....if they don't want to read what I write they can skip by it like mature adults.
I'm picked on by many here because i'm the community punching bag. Yes gog is a classy community, for the most part, and there are some nice people here. But there are also some real shitheels(like with any community online, sadly.), some who also disguise themselves as nice members of the community no less.

Gog is a nice place as well....unless you're me or anyone else the nastier members of the community deem unworthy of classy treatment that is. Then it's a different story. Go look at the first page of this thread. Most of my posts on that page are now low rated for no reason. Even the ones where I don't even talk about rep or say anything harsh.
