It actually looks like OFP rather than COD.
The few vehicles in the video weren't being driven by drunk drivers so the driving pathfinding might even be improved!
Anticipation rising...
Wait, I though ARMA was the series that the people who made Operation Flashpoint were making now. They're making both?
BIS and Codemasters co-developed OFP and then split. BIS makes arma (fairly badly by the gameplay of 1 and the little I've seen a mate play of 2) and Codemasters are making OFP2
The original Company and Team make the ARMA series. The people that own the rights to OFP make the new OFP. So yes you are correct ARMA is the actual successor to OFP while the new OFP is just someone trying to pump money out of a franchise.
Meh. Still feels very COD-ish to me. In OFP, it was all about firing at the furthest effective weapon range. Having been in the army, from the video I'd also say this makes for a very entertaining video game, but more COD style than tactical. Under heavy suppressing fire in a battlefield, no one will run like that. Any soldier will tell you about the 4-second rule - run, count to 4, prone, take cover. Exposing yourself like that not only takes away the realism of the game already, I'm guessing it could possibly also take away the OFP-tension of hiding and hoping the enemies don't know you're there
I mean yeah it feels fun, but even in hardcore mode, it just feels like all they did was revamp the HUD. The game looks very polished though.
2 halves of a partnership trying to each make the game they think is best. Clearly a lot of love has gone into both OFP2 and ARMA2 and whilst I wasn't impressed by ARMA1 I'm open to the idea of 2 impressing me (when I have a computer that can play it) but the single biggest issue I had with 1, even higher than the bugs, was the blatantly absurd missions and from what I've been told, they've not improved much
Everyone keeps hating on OFP2, but honestly, it looks like the more playable, and enjoyable of the two.
I have the demo of ARMA2 installed, and it doesn't really impress me in any way. One of the things that grates on me the most, which OFP2 seems to have done a better job with, are the voices. in ARMA2, they sound VERY pieced together, and the quality is just painful to listen to.
I don't care that everyone is going to scream "it's not a video game, it's a SIMULATION!!!11!1!!" the fact of the matter is, it's a video game. if I wanted to be realistically shot in the face, I'd go join the army, get shipped off to Iraq, and die. if I want to play a game that has some degree of realism, while not being completely annoying, it's looking like I'll grab OFP2.
It almost has to be released in a better state than that godawful mess that was the Arma 2 demo. I'm sure Arma 2 will be a good game at some point, but it looks like OFP 2 might be a good game a lot quicker.
A game between CoD and Arma in simulation and tactics sounds about perfect to me... video looks great, I love the lack of a HUD.
I think that's console footage though, judging by the radial menu and the lack of any AA and such.
ArmA 2 is the game of the year.
No HUD is hardcore.

I think you are underestimating how much input codemasters had in the original.

Havent you heard? Afghanistan is the new Iraq. You are SO 2003
That does look pretty slick.
Also, top notch comments on the vid:
"but why did they call it dragon rising? "
"In the final level you fight a dragon while riding a velociraptor beside Jesus Christ using a rancor mount with an M80 and lightsaber in hell."

No not really since BIS still makes their Sims for actual Military Use while codemasters isn't shows who pulled most of the weight of the two. Irregardless what has always bothered me with both the OFP and ArmA franchises was the occasional stupid Rambo missions and unless the new ArmA 2 or OFP2 gets rid of that I won't bother purchasing them. The whole stealth action shooter business died with the 90s and should stay that way.

Well based on the past efforts of both codemasters and BIS, I know which company I'd trust to deliver a product with a degree of quality control
