Bahhaha! I don't think so "experts" http://playeressence.com/microsoft-and-sony-are-closer-to-going-third-party-than-nintendo-lets-get-the-facts-straight/#comment-12016

Also: About tablets/phone taking over in 2011/2012 digital sales they couldn't even beat the dlc sales or retail games never mind the actual games themselves( that didn't even include the retail sales of said games).
The WiiU is underperforming. On the other hand the 3DS prints money. Yeah. No.

With the strength of their back catalog and ability to innovate, I can seem them being shut out of a generation, but I can't see them being out of it for much longer than that.

I'll likely be getting a Wii:U at some point, assuming they don't give up on it, I just can't afford to buy one right now.
Nintendo sells great in Japan.

Nokia sells great in Finland.

Sony-Ericsson sells great in Sweden.
They're far from dying but I do think they could be heading for rough times if the WiiU never heats up and the mobile market keeps eating into their portable sales. The 3DS is doing well but not as well as the DS, and it could get worse. We shall see.

Sony is actually misleading because while the company is struggling the game division is one of their few profitable sectors, from what I understand.

Microsoft makes too much money elsewhere to really fail but I do find it amusing how badly they enter markets. Have they made an overall profit on gaming yet? I doubt it, even with some profitable years this decade. Still they have the capital to keep holding on and never let go. They don't want to be leaders in gaming though, they want to control all aspects of your living room experience.
The Wii-U is still being outsold (last I read) by the Wii. I'm sure this isn't helping things much. Nintendo has been down before, I'm sure they will pull yet another rabbit out of their hat.

Japan controls far more of the gaming market than Finland or Sweden does for mobiles.

The 3DS sold more units on its first year than the DS.

I read a couple of days ago that the 3DS is actually doing better than the DS was doing at the same point in its life. I don't remember where though. Anyway, they just announced the DS is going to stop being produced so that could potentially boost 3DS sales even more. Well, that and Pokemon this year.

Yeah. The DS wasn't really much of a success until the DS Lite arrived. The 3DS, however, hasn't needed such a major redesign so far to take off (Well, there's the 3DSXL but for me that's an actual step back since it isn't even portable and looks fugly).

There's no need for them to keep producing the DS, I assume the production costs of the 3Ds have come down. For those that don't like the 3D you can always turn it off. And I believe that the 3Ds is capable of pretty much everything the DS was capable of.

Speak for yourself. It drives me nuts how Japanese companies fail to make devices that are designed for adults.
