they are for games, and these particular ones redeem on Steam.

those we just got posted are all steam codes, some are gog codes, some desura, some gamersgate.

Steam codes can be redeemed via Steam: Games > Activate a product on Steam

Gog codes can be redeemed via https://secure.gog.com/en/gift/

For Steam, google steam, sign up, download the client, and then in the client, click "add a game" and follow the prompts.

for GOG - click "redeem gift" at the bottom of the page and enter the code, follow the prompts.

That's the 3rd time a Steam code has refused to work for me until someone else redeemed it first. (eg, I use the code, says it's invalid, press back, invalid again, press back, and _then_ it finally tells me it's a duplicate.)

I think after trying to guess that one duder's code earlier, Steam got suspicious of me and is no longer (hopefully temporarily) allowing me to redeem codes anymore. Sad face goes here.

Yeah, Steam likes to blacklist people for an hour or so after a couple of bad codes. Problem is - they don't tell you this, they just ignore every code you drop in there.

I don't view it as a problem, frankly. The best way to deter bots is to not let them know you found them out, and let them continue doing what they're doing, harmlessly.

And repeatedly trying codes and having them fail isn't within normal usage, so I don't blame them for blacklisting me. It's just good to know it's temporary.
