That's how the person who gives the code knows. But how does someone who wants to claim a code know if the code has already be claimed?

Think it just says invalid, which I know isn't that precise. Steam says its a duplicate product code, and Desura actually tells you who the person was. For giveaways in the future I think I prefer to use Desura.
