YogSo: It's funny how this thread sparks back to life as soon as Doc* starts gifting games... ;-)

* Not meaning to underestimate hucklebarry, of course, but hopefully you know what I mean. :-)

mrtophat101: I am your drugs!

Muhahahaha!
But which one are you? The red pill, or the blue one? :-P
Apparently postal 2 is an excellent game to play when your brain is turned off...

With Postal 2 going on sale tomorrow, the original game would be the perfect giveaway for this thread. ;)

Only if you want ninjas to suffer.

(I found postal 1 to be pretty fun when I was 13-14, in particular that level with the marching band, where you could throw Molotov cocktails at the band (me and a friend made a game out of it, who could kill the most with a single cocktail), but after playing it recently *shudders* Controls were stiff and clumsy, combat did not feel fluid or fun, and its attempts at shocking the player just felt forced).

Yeah, this. I've voted for Postal 2 because I'd like more people to experience it first hand. Most have just heard about it and link it to the moronic/shocking/puerile humour, and while I'm not going to deny it has that in spades, I also think it's more interesting than other 'conventional' shooters, in some ways. For starters, the setting is quite different. And even if the 'standard' players are 'expected' to act like psychos to complete the different objectives every day, the game doesn't actually force them to do so. I.e., one of the objectives is getting some milk from the store, and the cashier is a moron and there's a long queue of people that advances slowly. Supposedly, you have to run out of patience and start shooting everyone. But you can also wait until it's your turn and pay for the milk, peacefully. Some people will find that acting just like in normal life is boring and the antithesis of videogames. But I just find it refreshing by contrast. Postal 2 is full of obnoxious characters and retarded things... but its world makes much more sense than those others were the player character runs through corridors while single-handedly killing an army worth of 'baddies'...

Oh, and Postal 1 is just a bad game.

If it was a $6 game going on sale, then it would have been a bit of a no-brainer to actually pick it up, and see what the fuss is all about, but as a $10 game, I can either chose between that or a good high quality french hot dog, and I don't know which one would give me the most enjoyment. I'm not really a shooter person to begin with.

Postal 2 is worth every cent. The main appeal of the game is the humour, not the shooting part.

I'm afraid of the cultural barrier... I don't even know the black midget they talk about in portal 2... and they have multiple references about the american culture I'm not familiar with...
