IronStar: Can someone please explain me what is the problem with Steam? No issues so far, so I'm curious...
Biggest problem, it's a rental service.
Additional possible problems include
Regional Pricing (check steamprices.com for examples)
Regional Locks (ask Bansama for some horror stories)
Asking to be online to verify you own the games, and offline mode working or not working, so no internet means no games.
Extra process that needs to be running, depending on computer it may or may not effect performance.
An depending on who you ask, you may find more things, though I think opinions will vary on those (support, forum moderation abuse etc)

So sad... :(

GameRager: A bit childish, but we all need to vent sometime....right?

Hopefully it'll all work itself out in here between the parties involved. :)
wasn't trying to attack anyone with it , for reasons i really questioned his motives for saying it here.
also it is a bit akward while he attacked me a few days ago, and then pm's me asking how i am.

but as i mentioned before if anyone has problems take it to pm, this is not the place.

and about steam..what jmich said. especially the online verification part.

Unemployed. No luxuries like internet access at home (I'm at a public library). In my case, Steam becomes something like the AC2 DRM (always online).

By the way, very respectful of you to answer my PM.

Why doesn't it surprise me that you didn't even bother to answer ? Are you always that rude ? Or just to me ?

Er...rental service? I missed something?
I have felt quite of this regional pricing BS, but they aren't only ones who do it.
Regional locks are in place since...forever? NES anyone? But they are stupid indeed. (THE regional lock i had issue with is one of PSX, but i got modchip for it, that allowed me to play some...extra games. I did it few years ago, when PS3 was released, so no harm was done to developers.)
What happens if your connection dies, and you want to play something? Offline mode engaged or...?
Steam takes 16MB RAM ATM, so it's not really an issue.
I've heard horror stories about their moderators too.

yeah but regional locks on consoles were kind of silly. even if you wanted to buy a legal import you couldn't play because of it. and the people who want to do illegal things would find a way with a modchip.

and steam is for pc users, there shouldnt be a regional lock on a pc.

and i am slow with everything.. :p

Thank you. :)

But when I finally find a job (and I figure online payment thingy), there will be some new giveaway contests. I pledge myself to do it.

Lugum & N0x0ss: you two, make amends. I insist ;)

does that involve kissing up?

If at any time Steam decides that you should lose your game access, you lose your game access. Doesn't matter how much time/money you spent on that title, you no longer can access it. Thus a rental service of an undetermined renting length, but still a rental service. They do seem to have gotten better at it lately, but it's still a rental service

IronStar: / What happens if your connection dies, and you want to play something? Offline mode engaged or...?
Again, it depends. You could at one time change to offline mode by modifying a configuration file, but the "proper" way to go offline was to go online, switch to offline status, then go offline. So far I haven't really needed it, since the only time I had to use it I knew from before I'd be offline for about a week, and only game I played was Toki Tori, which did work without problem.

Good for you, for me it takes about 85MB RAM, while it is sitting there idle, no messages, no downloading, just sitting there. That would be down to 44 if steam was available as a 64bit application, but I guess I'm asking too much.

Anyway, the reasons I gave were reasons some people will present as to why they are not using steam, whether those reasons make sense or not is irrelevant, but those are the most "reasonable" ones.

I never really understood why would someone lock out games based on region...that is full retard move.

Only if you both feel so... ;)

Oh, man, when I tell Doc. He will feel so disappointed not to be the one in your heart... :D

Any notable games they did this to? (Asking because I switched from...other distribution services not too long ago)
Yeah, I understand what you meant, I'm asking what happens if my internet dies out of nowhere (broadband operator has issues). Does it switch to offline automatically?
Never felt steam was there. Desura on the other hand...

Hopefully you will find something to do. Giveaways don't really matter, they are just extras :)

Yep, he didn't take too well that I criticized his behavior.
Since then he's been trying to reverse the roles, but I don't really care,
I just always state my opinion, no matter what.

Anyway, all has been said. Time to move on.
