dragonsreach: How bad is UPLay?
UPlay is less resource intensive than steam and does not require a constant connection.

For most games, single online activation. Some of them have a bit of extra content if you start them while online, a very small number (anno 2070) still require online connection. You can set uPlay to start in offline mode, and there were rumours that a couple of games don't even need to be activated online, though a few quick tests we did proved that either the rumours were false, or wrong game versions were used.

All in all, lighter and less restrictive than steam, though it downloads installers instead of games, and incremental patches instead of cumulative ones.

Oh no, it's ok :) The point was explanation of why I don't advertise on here, not to throw a pity party. It's in the past. <3

simon_vd: Not bad at all.
Regular client

Although there is no tray for now.
just read, it looks like all games now have a "1 time, on install, activation online". Does that stand true? If so, that's better than Steam.

ninja'd while I typed. Y'll be FAST!

I remember reading about it installing a rootkit on machines, maybe that isn't inside the newest uplay application installer.
Does it still instal the plugins to browsers?

Elvin37: This still seems ways out of my reach I can maybe run it at 3 fps if anything haha
Fair 9-14 FPS but that depends on CPU and RAM also. Map 3 and 7 is the most demanding in terms of detailing. I completed all these 50 Steam achievements on that low rig and couldn't if it wasn't playable for me. ;-)

But you can complete it.

While Project Origin can be broken in 2 QTEs, in final "boss" fight and last Alma encounter, either she kills you, or he will shoot you. Obviously inputs lags and are not detected fast enough so game thinks you aren't pushing them and you keep being killed.

Sigh, more FUD.
What uPlay did was install a uplay:// protocol, same way as steam installs steam:// or the GOG Downloader does (gogdownload://). The problem was that the parsing of said protocol was off, and one could run arbitary code. Was patched a week after it was mentioned.
That is not a rootkit, that is a protocol vulnerability.

Let me dig up the report of it.

Edit: Here's uPlay and here's steam.

Alma didn't kill me... Not going to spoil it but it definitely wasn't death.

Oh ok thanks, that was the impression I was lead to when I was reading up about it in another forum.

Does uplay actively scan running processes, or scan harddrive at all?
Or does it ONLY validate the actual game installs, and does no snooping in harddrive/registry/processes/etc.?

It can be used with Daemon Tools, if that's what you're asking.
A question about Uplay and Steam. I have bought POP: Forgotten Sands from Steam which also requires uplay (as a third party drm). Will there be two entries if an uplay key is activated/or a conflict between the two versions?

It's about last QTE at the end of level13not Klimax. ;-P
You know, she was still a ghost afterall, lost body in explosion, created 3 manifestations, ugly dead spectre, playing with your mind to appear voluptous and with special stuff and power of Fear logic energy augmented her to the point she can generate kind of pseudobody, manifested flesh in third game so it becomes uncontrollable and weak but that's for others to discover how exactly happened.

No idea. ToS is more or less the same as steam (including the may scan computer clauses), but uPlay does feel lighter and less resource intensive. Could be that I don't have any uPlay friends though, thus no resource usage displaying what my friends do.

There is only one way to be sure..

Although I can see my steam games clearly labeled - STEAM.
But i don't have any titles to conflict so no idea.

Any steam game that requires UPaly can be played only in UPlay and without steam. I verified this with Assassin's Creed 2 a few months back.
