benderz: Or same word for different things sometimes :-)
In France, our "cars" are bigger than cars you can find in UK and US (or somewhere).

Thespian*: Yeah, in Spain the word "carro" means or [url=http://static.freepik.com/foto-gratis/carro-de-la-compra_2207887.jpg]this, whilst in South America is often used to refer to a car.
So in Spain, it would appear that "carro" is equivalent to the English "cart" (shopping or otherwise). Interesting. I wonder why none of my teachers at the Instituto Cervantes mentioned this? All they said was that "coche" is Spanish while "carro" is South American slang.

Indeed. In Spain "carro de la compra" is equivalent to "shopping cart", whilst just "carro" would be a more general acception also pointing to a mean of transporting goods, materials or people (either pulled by a human, an animal, or a motor vehicle, and usually non-covered).

Actually, "carro" is used more in Central America, around here in the south nobody says carro to cars, only to carts. We either say "auto" or "coche" for hatchbacks, sedans and "camioneta" for vans and pickups. And since we are in the topic, we neither say "gasolina" to gasoline/petrol, we say either "nafta" or "gasoil". :P

In Spain, is "gasolina" for gasoline, and "gasoil" for diesel.
