Today's second release is, beyond doubt, the most oldschool one in GOG.com's history. Read below to find out why.

The Anthology includes Zork I, Zork II, Zork III, Beyond Zork, Zork Zero, and Planetfall. This means six titles in total, all hailing from the 1980s, weighing in at a whopping nine megabytes. Yep, that means just around one floppy disk per game.
That means plain text and gameplay based on text input, but beneath the rough exterior lies a beauty that's hard to find in more modern games. Countless unforgettable situations and descriptions from the Zork series have become iconic in more contemporary fiction, both printed and interactive.
With such timeless and absolutely enthralling games, set in a crazy, surreal world, packed with a witty narrative and sarcastic, dark humor, what's there not to love?
So light your bronze lantern, pick up that Elvish sword of great antiquity and embark on a journey to (re)discover the world of Zork. You will not be disappointed.

Sid311: You don't even have to change the extensions if your interpreter isn't too fussy about them (the Frotz version I use isn't).
Zoom is pretty fussy. And iPhone Frotz is very fussy.

pernegger: Can the games be played with modern Z-CODE interpreters like Gargoyle? I don't see the point of emulating a whole DOS PC to run something that could run native on pretty much anything. Though having the option to use the original interpreter is really nice.

Sid311: Yes, they can.

And on non-modern interpreters like Frotz, they look just like they did inthe eighties.
(although not sure if you can run original frotz -not winfrotz- in Vista/W7)
In fairness, I do like to run them witn a modern interpreter and nice fonts, but I do think the original interpreters are important point of the package from a historical perspective.

the_voivod: Hmmm, I've not used Gargoyle, I have to say. I've heard it's good but I do recall it has (had?) issues with graphics though.

CalamityRanger: That one I can't comment on personally as I haven't used it to play anything that uses graphics... :S I typically try to use TADs for anything I know that has graphics (and of course if the game supports it). Quite a neat little program so far. I'll try tracking down something with graphics and see if Gargoyle has any issues, but the few games I have played on it play wonderfully.
Having just now heard of Gargoyle, I tried it and it looks pretty good.

Concerning graphics, I experimented a bit with these two games:

Carma, a game using graphics, running on Glulx engine - the game ran on Gargoyle with no problems, displaying everything properly.

Fallacy of Dawn, a game using graphics, running on Hugo engine - didn't display properly, only one picture was visible (more were supposed to be shown at a time - character portrait, environment photo) and, especially, no text was shown, rendering the game unplayable.

cheeseslice73: Grand Inquisitor (though, that's freeware anyway).
Since when?

cheeseslice73: ZTUU will probably turn up with Grand Inquisitor (though, that's freeware anyway)

kalirion: Since when?
Not ZGI, it's promotional counterpart, Zork: The Undiscovered Underground (ZTUU).

Back up just a bit

Admittedly, I possibly could have phrased that better.

Darling_Jimmy: I'm just going by memory here but I think Planetfall did appear in one of the other collections released at the same time.

EDIT: Yes it did. The Mystery Collection (for some reason.)

The Mystery Collection (1995; contained Deadline, Lurking Horror, Moonmist, Sherlock: The Riddle of the Crown Jewels, Suspect and The Witness. Zork Zero and Planetfall were a bonus in some packages)
The Adventure Collection (1995; contained Border Zone, Plundered Hearts, Cutthroats, Trinity and Infidel)
The Comedy Collection (1995; contained Bureaucracy, Hollywood Hijinx and Nord and Bert Couldn't Make Head or Tail of It)
The Fantasy Collection (1995; contained Spellbreaker, Enchanter, Sorcerer, Seastalker and Wishbringer)
The Science Fiction Collection (1995; contained Suspended, A Mind Forever Voyaging, Starcross, Stationfall and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy)
Not only the Mystery Collection. Each of the above compilations included Planetfall and one of the text Zork games.
(I only have the Fantasy/Mystery collections personally, but Mobygames seems to back this up.)

I hope you're right. I can never have too many copies of Planetfall.
oh hey, I found Zork included on Call of Duty Black Ops, so if I like I'll get it here :)

I still have my original Amiga floppy version :-D

How so? It takes the .DAT files un-renamed just fine.
To anyone who downloaded, how are the feelies scans? I still have both Masterpieces CDs, Complete Works and Zork Anthology, besides a few of the folios and grey boxes. But I love(d) Infocom games since the beginning, and if the documentation is better quality than the one included with the anthologies (LTOIs and CWOI), I'm sold.

What the heck am I doing in Macao? Can't remember moving...

True, but I can't get Zork Zero to run. Got any tips?
