The first title from the just announced agreement with Funbox Media is not a game for kids and will definitely make you get goose pimples all over.

Realms of the Haunting is, first and foremost, a horror game, but contains an interesting mix of different genres. It's a first-person perspective game with quite a bit of shooting involved, but is also an adventure game and has some RPG elements. Finally, there are many FMV sequences on top of it all. This sounds overwhelming and believe us Realms of the Haunting is one of those few games that do a good job at blending different genres.

The story is by far the strongest quality of Realms of the Haunting - it's solid and keeps you hooked from the beginning to the very end. The presentation, despite the old visuals, does a great job at keeping the suspense up and give you a good scare when required. The free-look camera and freedom of movement result in a strong connection between you and the game.
You're not too scared to play this game... Are you?
Great one.

Way to go, GOG.

GameRager: 1. I will tell ya where it's gone....it's gone to HELLLLLL...and back. :)

2. I agree, it's good if done right. Although it's a different story if the game is supposed to be over the top gore for some reason to fit the game story/etc or whatnot, or is a parody piece.
*Falls to knees* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I didn't realise how long it's been, I still remember perfectly the horse-like noise some of the monsters make perfectly (probably from hiding in rooms listening to them since they took so many shots to take down it was better just to avoid them), at least, I think I remember them perfectly, I might have to replay it to make sure since I keep remembering things I had forgotten, like many of the horror elements in the game. :D

GameRager: snip
I didn't say that you said that this type of horror was bad. I was just putting into perspective the kind of genre this game fits into the best. I don't know how the "I" got in there, I must have hit the key when moving my hand to my mouse to click "post".

dawvee: Sweet merciful crap! I was just trying to figure out how to get ahold of this game, and then GOG goes ahead and releases it.

Not the first time that's happened, either. They must be spying on me... :-o
Could you do me a huge favor then and start wishing for Final Fantasy and Resident Evil? MUCH obliged!
avatar
GameRager: Yer THAT scared to take a risk on what seems to be an awesome game? I could test run it for ya if you want. :P
I'm not wasting another $5.99 on a game that doesn't work when I've got the original CDs sitting right next to me. If I wanted to throw money away like that again, I'd buy another game from Beam Dog ;)

costanet: This game is awesome but if anyone has already bought it, is it possible to know how it works with widescreen?
avatar
GameRager: Check a site called widescreengamingforums. They usually have fixes and info for widescreen compatibility for various PC titles.
Ty very much for you hint, I'll check immediately. Maybe it's time for gog. com to build in the installer a widescreen option , no one today plays in 4:3.

SLP2000: Is Funbox Media the publisher that was mentioned here

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/fools/post12

?
avatar
TheEnigmaticT: No, actually. We have an even bigger publisher that we'll be announcing soon enough.

Not that Funbox isn't totally awesome.
And we patiently wait for this reveal... :)

It's a DOS game, so no true widescreen, sorry. You can edit the DOSBox config so it stretches to the full screen, but that would be ugly.
avatar
bansama: Also, can anyone confirm whether GOG are selling the US or EU version of the game?
avatar
beliar: I don't see any significant differences between the two...
Yes and no. I would say that site is rather unexpectedly ill-informed in this instance, as there is the significant matter of customisable controls (significant, because the keys in the original UK release are among the worst choices I have ever seen, whereas the US release allowed some of the controls to be re-bound). If you want details, I put this together (just over ten years ago, I see).

However I am guessing that we are running this via DOSBox, in which case changing the keymappings is possible outside of the game, and the problem would be mitigated.

Nice, I know lots of people have been waiting for this one!

I'll have to download a demo to see how well it runs on my laptop.

ChrisColon: Looks like Funbox Media was formerly known as Zushi ( http://www.mcvuk.com/news/39821/Zushi-team-returns-as-Funbox-Media ). Here's a link to the list of games on Mobygames: http://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/zushi-games-ltd/
Ooh, if they still have the rights to Normality, that will be nice.

I remember watching an LP of this game and thinking it looked pretty boss. Being a fan of horror games, I'll definitely have to nab this one when I have some spare cash on hand.
avatar
Navagon: This is an impressive and memorable game that should be played by any horror fan.
This.
avatar
bansama: Yeah, not trusting that. GOG's page also said Interstate '76 works on XP. But you can see in the forums for yourself that that's stretching the truth a tad.
Realms is a DOS Box game. If whichever DOSBox version GOG uses supports it, it will run. You may need to tinker with the settings to get the best visuals / performance though, or even use your own DOS Box installation (I always use a version with openglhq output or hq filters for direct 3d.)

Never played this one, but I've heard only praise.
I think I'll get it later.
*looks at his backlog of unfinished games*
Oh, it will be much later, then.
WOW.

I had wanted to try this, but, well. Never had it, read the site for it, etc...

TOTALLY getting it.
