The first title from the just announced agreement with Funbox Media is not a game for kids and will definitely make you get goose pimples all over.

Realms of the Haunting is, first and foremost, a horror game, but contains an interesting mix of different genres. It's a first-person perspective game with quite a bit of shooting involved, but is also an adventure game and has some RPG elements. Finally, there are many FMV sequences on top of it all. This sounds overwhelming and believe us Realms of the Haunting is one of those few games that do a good job at blending different genres.

The story is by far the strongest quality of Realms of the Haunting - it's solid and keeps you hooked from the beginning to the very end. The presentation, despite the old visuals, does a great job at keeping the suspense up and give you a good scare when required. The free-look camera and freedom of movement result in a strong connection between you and the game.
You're not too scared to play this game... Are you?

bansama: For those interested someone on Twitter has confirmed that there is no in-game key remapping and no difficulty selection, etc., making this the EU version of the game.
Well that ... sucks. Any chance of GOG providing the US version as an option, or is there a legal reason they can't?

Eclipse: so is the us version of the game better?
They're identical except you don't get an easy mode and have to edit a file if you want to change keys iirc
I made a little guide how to change the key mappings through DOSBox:

But the added difficulty settings would still be a nice addition, so I hope we can get the US version. It's also the latest version, so there may be undocumented additional little bugfixes.

Holy smokes! I just played this for the first time. Now it is 3am in the morning and I've tured all the lights off. This is freaking scary haha. Not even modern games such as Amnesia and Penumbra have freaked me out so much. I just had to stop playing. Also Iove FMV surprisingly.

I recall the game getting insanely difficult towards the end, so yeah, the option of an "easy" difficulty would have been a bonus. Not to mention being able to change the horrible control scheme the game used be default... But as someone else said, that can apparently be rectified with Dosbox settings.
This is absolutely amazing. i was only talking to a freind at work about this game a few weeks ago, then i ask for it in a GOG forum post 2 weeks ago...aand here it is as iff by magic.
Wicked game, with some of the WORST acting you will ever see. Great game though, and one of the last games Tony Crowther made , he of CAPTIVE and BLAGGER fame( I think ).

KEgstedt: Ah, Realms of the Haunting! I remember reading about it on Home of the Underdogs several years ago and wishing I had any (legal, relatively inexpensive) way of obtaining a copy of the game. Also, this is one of the games which reminds me of how much I appreciate some lovingly amateurish FMV...

Lafazar: In my opinion the FMV is actually pretty professionally done. Of course you see the nonexistent budget at every corner, but the acting and direction is IMHO pretty good, especially so for videogame standards.
I completely agree; by FMV standards this is great stuff indeed and I and was referring primarily to the production values rather than the acting and directing.
You know what's funny? I was eyeing this game at a forum for sale list. Now I don't have to buy it there.

Added to my wishlist.
Never heard of this game and somehow it's also now not catching my attention.
Are there any cheats available? If it gets ridiculous, I would like to finish and see the whole story play out.

Unfortunately not. But it's not THAT difficult since you can save anywhere and most of your weapons will have infinite ammo. Still, you should preserve your health as much as possible since healing potions are finite (I usually finish the game with a ton left over, though).

Also the enemy AI is pretty simple and can be exploited rather easily (they often can't cross certain thresholds and are easily dispatched). Combat is also pretty slow paced. Oh, and you can pause the game at anytime and calmly drink a health potion. This really is an adventure game at heart, not an FPS.

You are correct. It is indeed the work of Tony Crowther. (he of Captive and Blagger fame)
This is what the horrible "D" wanted to be.

the most annoying is probably the James Bond wannabies, however it's closer to strategy than FPS last boss I'm looking at you!
