darthspudius: I wouldn't say Dune was out of his reach at all. It's easy to control which really roles to a youngsters advantage. Though the game itself hasn't aged well, it was certainly great fun until C&C came out and made everything better!

Take it to the extreme 1989 and get a copy of Golden Axe! \m/

Licurg: Dude... Dune 1 not 2.... Focus, will you ? :P

BTW, you should buy the Streets of Rage games from Gamersgate and play it together. You can use the same PC for it.
Did you just say Streets of Rage on pc... son of a.... did I seriously miss Streets of rage on pc? lol

(I can hear my son in his bed quoting Lord of the Rings... boys been well educated!)
Congrats! :) There is nothing like your first victory, though it is the first step in a long and exciting journey through the worlds of games.

I thought this might be appropriate tunes for his first victory...

The first 3 ones are available from GG, DRM-free, along with a shit-load of other Mega Drive games, separately or as a collection.
I don't know if your kid likes that kind of games, but for eye-hand coordination, pinball games should be nice for a start.

Pro Pinball Big Race USA is the best pinball game here (imho), but it only has one table, so he might get tired of that. It's not that easy either.

I don't know, I liked pinball when I was a kid, but that was on NES :P
What's next Postal, Saints Row, or GTA San Andreas?
'Grats! Won't be long before he gets a backlog and is haunted by his unfinished games XD I think my first finished game was Super Smash Bros. (if that counts), but Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for the Game Boy Color was the most significant for me (because it actually had a story).

You can also try this one:

But be advised - it's not a free 2 play game, it's a free trial, and then you would have to buy some tables.
Congratulation. You should be proud.

I didn't finish a game until I got 12 at least (without cheats. I cheated like a bastard when I was a kid). I don't remember if it was Final Fantasy VII or Spyro the Dragon.

Don't know much about the lego games (except that supposedly, they're good), but seeing as they're action games, it shows that your kid got skills.
Congratulations to your son! Finishing your first game, especially if it takes long and it's a major one, feels really gratifying. No wonder he was over the moon. :)
Now that is a real achievement. Portal might be a option for his next game. Challenging but possible to play in short sessions.

My first finish was Golden Axe and Contra when I was the same age. I cannot even get near the last mission in Contra now so god knows how I did it then.

Lego games are a bit odd, the Starwars games were great and different for the time but the rest that followed were a bit boring for me. But Lord of the Rings is a nice exception, they made it open world with more things to do and the cutscenes with the movie dialogue is hilarious. If you're a fan of the Rings series you'll probably have a good laugh with it.

darthspudius: I am so proud! :D

The little sprogger (5 years) has been playing this game (Lego Lord of the Rings) an hour before bed for months now and he just came running through completely over the moon that he's finally finished it. I am so proud! :D
That is actually a pretty heavy game for a 5 year old to complete!:D
Adorable, congrats to him on vanquishing evil.

You're telling me, it's not quite as easy as the other LEGO games haha.
