about the endless hl2

at 2004 it was epic due Engine

The "gmod" sandbox Building .. it was so awesome .. i spent hours with putting box on box.. itwas fun .. ( like 8 barrels staccked ) then blow it up .. it was so awesome .. ( now we got gmod) ..

Engine is what made HL2 good

The story = sux imo
The game : was good at first i must admit but if i look back i think it sucks...

Witcher 2 is the most overrated game I have ever played. Don´t get me wrong, the game is good, but highly overrated. For an RPG is way to linear for my taste, the combat responsiveness is terrible. It deserves an 8.0 at the highest, but not 9.0+ like most are rating it.
Red dead redemption, and all the 3d GTA for that matter.

Never saw the appeal.. Boring after a couple of hours.
I was about to say Call of Duty, but that is too easy. The most overrated game thats even more overrated then half-life imo is Portal
Well, nothing is "overrated" unless you let the opinions of other people decide your own before you've even played the game and decided for yourself.

In fact, I despise when people use "overrated" as some kind of valid criticism, it's basically saying "My expectations, from having never played the game previous, based on what some other people said, did not live up".

It says precisely nothing about the quality of the game really, it just says how easily influenced you are, and how you don't even feel secure in your basic judgements.

I've even heard arguments against games something along the lines of "It's an okay game, but it has a bad fanbase always saying it's the best thing ever".

Ultimatum: Spore..I remember the hype..so many promises broken..DRM..

and that resulted in massive piracy, the same goes to crysis for including said DRM
Mortal Kombat - not the original, which was alright, but the 2011 remake. All the gore kiddies screamed out with joy and the reviewers paid off by WBIE praised it in the highest, but it is quite singly one of the worst beat-em-ups I have ever played. Extremely poorly balanced, reliant on its gory finishing moves as a cheap gimmick, with victory reliant on simply memorising overpowered combos.

Online is pretty dead now, bar a few combo spammers who rely on certain characters' combos (Shang Tsung, Cyrax, Nightwolf).
Lord of the Rings Online - It wins tons of awards and has a devoted set of fan boys who try get any nay sayers banned on the forums. (easy to do when you have a over zealious head moderator) In reality the game is a lag fest with about 50 buttons pointing to the store and gameplay about as exciting as killing rats in everquest. No i take that back. Killiing rats in everquest was more exciting.

Metal Gear Raising. They turned Metal gear from a stealth game into a arcade hacknslash. Need i say more?

Diablo 3. All hype only too fall flat on the basics that made the original titles great.

Mass effect 3. Same old Same old. No innovation and the story took a nose dive off a cliff with the less then original "inserted plot point in the last 5 mins".

Dragon age 2. Last time i checked sequals were suppose to be better then the original. I guess EA focussed too much on DLC. Who would of thought it?

Half-Life & Halo are such basic shooters but those are the two games that I've heard glorified the most (the second Half-Life has an interesting story but once again - it's still your every day shooter).

Nowadays

Team Fortress 2 and Counter Strike

TF2 is ok but it's still pretty basic and Counter Strike....that game is total mindless slog. I think it just happened to turn into a hang-out for the twenty-four and younger crowd.
FIFA 12. Old features advertised as new features under new name. Lots of issue but instead of fixing it, EA push the fixes for next edition (FIFA 13) and advertised it as an improvement. Developer didn't care about core gameplay and AI, instead they focusing on Ultimate Team (more cash for them). So what make this game overrated? The fact is, it's sold million copies despite all the 'lies and false promises'.

Jernfuglen: I forgot Burnout paradise. It's actually an entertaining game, but also too repetitive for me.
Burnout Paradise : Ultimate Box?

It's a <censored> joke. No, sorry. Jokes are funny. THAT game is so <censored> PAINFUL to play it's unbelievable unless you've tried it :

*10 minute "Loading" screens. Complete with "Paradise City" music by Guns n' Roses on repeat - not a bad track, not that short, either, but it quickly sours on you in this game.

*MUST login to EA servers to save ANY progress. Often fails. Must create about 3 different logins and names, and then pray very, very, very hard it works. Must be a certain type of EA account, which they *NEVER* tell you which one it must be....Customer support? lol. You're 'avin' a giraffe!

*The races aren't too bad, until you hit a section that needs to buffer up in the memory. And then you're screwed. Ditto stunt challenges.

*constant, random crashes, halts, system freeze and loads. And I mean *CONSTANT*.

It's a VERY badly ported console game, and Boy! Does it show. I paid £5 in a sale for it. Total waste of money. If I'd known it would be THAT frustrating to play, I wouldn't have paid 50p for it.
Mine is Neverwinter Nights 2 and especially the expansion Mask of the Betrayer. The games are just really poorly designed and the story is dull. They used the 3.5 system so poorly that the game was tedious to play and it memory leaked all the damn time even when patched up. All the cool stuff that they had in that you wouldn't expect had a down side that took away the Coolness. You had the Tyfling playable race but the lazy art and graphics design just reused the Half orc with some tweaks for the PC while the NPCs got their own model with a tail, it's like playing a dwarf and having it just be a human scaled down. The Warlock would have been cool but they left out the cool powers for the class and just left them with generic magic.

And then people have the gall to to call mask of the Betrayer as good as Planescape Torment, it isn't that good, not anywhere close, it's better than the core game but it isn't on par with Torment or any great RPG. It's not the shit of the core game but the gameplay is still complete crap.
In comparison of numbers hands down it's WoW. In terms of playtime after release it's probably Counter Strike. Recently released I would say any game in the MOBA genre but I can't really choose between HoN or LoL. Tough call. :\

Really liking this thread. Interesting to see what everyone thinks of 'the classics'! I can think of a few, some already mentioned, and I know someone will disagree! lol

Half Life; sure it's a challenging old school shooter, but really I found it quite average and increasingly lost interest as I went along. I'm thinking of giving it another go at some point, since I loved HL2

Fallout; It's a great, concise little rpg by all means. I think my main agro comes from the fanboys. Most of the points they raise when bashing FO3 in comparison to the original (grey morality, open storyline etc) are kind of non-apparent. I consider it a surprisingly linear game (quite short too) with fairly black and white morals. It's still a good game, just not what the fan boys will have you believe. (to be fair most talk of non-linear gameplay is just hot air imo). FO2 is a nice improvement overall, but don't get me started with New Vegas!

Gears of War; I really couldn't understand the love this game got, cover mechanics seemed slightly broken to me, terrible attempt at telling a story, some really poor design sprung from a lack of imagination, it all generally cheapened gameplay. Coincidentally I really enjoyed the follow up :P

Halo Series Probably over hyped as a result of the console wars. Good for it's era, but timeless...?

CoD4; Seemed like a big step back from the previous games. One of those games that only ever felt challenging because of poor mechanics or simply unfair game design.

The Witcher; Unfortunately I am serious :( I love the game play, I adore the setting, I want to love the game. But the narrative, pacing and script leave major misgivings, and make me want to punch through my screen and into the devs living room. Other times I just laugh at how poor it is. Also "a mature, adult game"; get real. I completed the game recently and have the Witcher 2 downloaded, I just hope between the two games story and dialogue has improved, because damn there is potential there!

Star Craft Yes it's very well balanced, yes it's a sport in Korea, but there are better RTS's out there.

WoW just no

But hey, just my opinions!
