SimonG: It has nothing to do with personal opinion. For the most part I liked Halo and played through it, but it was not as good as a lot of people made you believe.
Actually I see it quite contrary. For those people Halo game was actually that good and your expectations were based on their feelings. You didn't like it, too bad. But you can't argue there is something in that game since so many people play it :)

Gromuhl: User votes are pretty useless because of the positive versus negative voting. The only way a game can get a 10/10 from me is if it's perfect. That's something I know after only a few years (Baldur's Gate Trilogy comes close, still play that after 10 years).
.
TRILOGY???? There's only 2....Isn't there?

Throne of Bhaal is sometimes referred to as part three of the BG series.

Why does ToB get to count as a whole part but not Tails from the Sword Coast then?
Is TftSC much shorter or something?
Fallout 3, I mean everyone loves it but it's f***ing ****.

Personally I think a game can be a really good game and still be overrated. A game overrated when all you hear about is how great the game is. I really like the Halo games & Oblivion, I even say there two of my preferred games, but there both overrate. God could have came down in all his glory for a dinner with the pope on the day oblivion was released and more people would be talking about how great Oblivion was and what it was like walking out of the sewer the first time. Now that is overrated.

TotSC just adds a few optional locations to the map. ToB finishes the overall story of the series.

I see! Interesting - cheers
Day of the tentacle
Grim fandango
Any call of duty games
Diablo 2
Propably portal. (Have to try that to confirm)
To all the people that said the original Deus Ex was overrated - I'll say one thing for it, being JC Denton for the length of the game totaly ruined being Sam Fisher for me!
What you mean there's ony One Way through the level? That One Way actually involves walking around at street level and not over rooftops / through the sewers? What? you mean the plot is all 'West is best' and 'Yay America' with no sinister conspiracy theorys
Whole game definately felt like a huge step backwards after Deus Ex - maybe it's more about Splinter Cell being bad than Deus Ex being Good though?
Actually, nope, Deus Ex is awesome!

I played 2 Splinter cells after deus ex. I liked those, very much. Haven't really given a chance to splinter 3.
But deus ex overrated.. Never in my book.
Some companies (like BioWare as an example) set their target audience as everyone (this is quite apparent in their sales pitches) and when there is a part of audience that says "there is not enough role playing here" their reply basically suggests the problem is with the user and not with the designer... and that what you are playing is exactly what you asked for.

Their management is ready to condemn western role playing saying that it is in stagnation (actual quote) and the best offer to address that they can muster is a dressed down action role playing game and WoW clone with glowing swords. There is a special place in hell reserved for this kind of behaviour...

As for Splinter Cell vs Deus Ex conversation. The recent Splinter Cell Conviction is vastly superior (IMHO) in terms of game mechanics to Deus Ex, (let's try to avoid binary voting system here, I did not say that Deus Ex sucks). For me there are too many starved cyberpunk people out there ready to call Deus Ex a second coming where in fact it is a very good, though somewhat lacking and little unpolished game. It is a little overrated and should be nowhere near the recognition and status it has received...

In the end I would rather be Fisher than Jensen...

Seriously? I thought that Splinter Cell Conviction was a boring rail shooter. Gameplay-wise it shouldn't even be named Splinter Cell as the preceding games were so much better imho.
I can see comparing the Splinter Cell games to Deus Ex: HR, but not the steaming pile of excrement that was Splinter Cell Conviction.

I was comparing original Deus Ex to original Splinter Cell - those are the ones I've played
Yes, but Ebon-Hawk used conviction.

I agree with you that both Splinter Cell (the original) and Deus Ex are good games. I liked Deus Ex more, but that's personal preference. I think Splinter Cell is more lineair and stealth based, but it's very well done. Deus Ex is much more open with much more freedom and options, but no gameplay part stands out. On the whole it's awesome though.

SC:Conviction is an extremely lineair rail shooter with some half baked stealth elements and way too many scripted events. It's an extremely watered down version of it's predecessors. I played SC:Double Agent right before it, and even though that had some technical problems, it was in the end so much better than Conviction.
