The ugliest LEGO character in history is about to make an appearance.. :D
Anyhow, from the perspective of the kid inside me, cool! I mean, i have very fond memories of my LEGO times [i still have my blocks, i'm a hoarder, i know] , and that was one of the best toys i ever had. Surely the best non electronic toy.
I don't know how popular LEGOs are these days, but from what i've seen in the market brochures [i mean, those little "what we're selling" things] the modern sets look simplified, with many parts serving only one purpose by design, limiting the options and by that the kids imagination. As long as the set is not something ONLY Duplo-like, it'll be a great toy. Pneumatic pistons and such..
Problem is, what happens when MC finally gets oficially retextured by a skilled pixelartist?

It's true there are a lot more specialized pieces in LEGO nowadays, but they still fit the existing structures.
A Minecraft LEGO set would have to be generic, though. It would be against the whole idea of Minecraft to have a fixed model with assembly instructions. In many ways, it would be a kind of return to its roots for LEGO.
And it would sell like hotcakes ;-)

I think it's possible, though the paint may wear out after some time, mainly if you have a box full of various blocks like I do. But if you want just build something and then put it on a display, that way the paint may endure.

On the one hand, I adore both Lego and Minecraft.
On the other hand...what's the point? Minecraft is already basically Legos :P

Well, first of all, ordinary LEGO bricks are the wrong shape. They'd have to be taller to match the cubic shape of Minecraft blocks. Secondly, they're too small. Handpainting a 16x16 pixel pattern on something the size of a LEGO brick would be far from easy, and painting a bunch of them would be right out.
