keeveek: Just "shiny" ? Or it changes the look of rare cards to special/collectors edition cards? Because if it's the second, I need that DLCs :D

Tizzysawr: It just makes them foil, plain and simple. Let's call them Horse Armor for Magic: The Gathering, specially since its purely digital content with no actual value whatsoever.
Oh, i thought they have some special artworks. If it's just "gasoline" effect, I'll pass on this one ;-)
Do Not put foil cards in the mircrowave....I learned the hard way :((
Just kidding ;p
Well I have been a magic player since 1994 or so, and I understand why someone wants the foil cards, its a collectors thing...but, since these cards aren't really real, I personally would not waste real money on a more shiny looking computer screen card...Of course if Magic 2012 was the game I played the most, I might just drop down the money on them...but I doubt it...I'm cheap like that, to each their own though ;D
Foil cards have a tendency to upset those with lower performance PCs...keep that in mind. I never really saw the point of foil conversions in an online game, but I suppose its essentially the same principle as...say a game in which they offer you a costume or something for real life money (like Guild Wars).
I quite enjoyed Duels and Duels 2012.

Plugged over 50 hours into Duels and probably going to do more in 2012. It's just fun and I unlock every deck honestly instead of being cheap (which ironically is expensive) and buying the foils and unlocks. What's the point of THAT?

It IS fun but as others have said, I do find it stupid that you cannot build your own deck. *shrug* Still waiting for someone to build a game that rivals MTG 95 version. Shandalar was the best!

After these releases on Steam I really doubt it. Too much money to lost ;)
All you need is old Microprose version with proper patches/updates. :)

True but I want an updated card database....

I would pay a good amount of money for that game with all patches and updated cards.

I think I heard there was a link to a remake of the old game. If there is one can someone point me in direction where I can get it thanks...
Don't give up hope guys! Magic 2016 will finally have a proper deck editor. :P

Short story: Last year, one of original Microprose version's programmers revealed himself and based on his own code created a patch which allowed to (among other things) add new cards. Since that time some people updated old MTG version with many cards. Unfortunately most of them is not working in Shandalar but only in PvP but still. Too bad that this programmer as soon as he revealed himself disappeared soon afterwards, lol.

I have original game with all expansions so I think it is legal for me to use patched version with updates. But patches are released as already integrated in game core so I guess it is not so legal to share link.
Runespell Overture is out and looks really cool. It's not a trading card game since it uses the traditional French playing cards and uses poker rules. The gameplay is similar to Puzzle Quest but instead of the 3 in a row style battles it has card game battles (of course it also has spell and other cards too). And I'd say it's much better than PQ. The story, the graphics and the music are much superior.

Doesn't have multiplayer as of yet however, though the developers said that they would add it through a free patch eventually. Definitely a good card game though and its worth trying.
If you're interested in playing Magic: The Gathering, I'd suggest going for Magic: The Gathering Online. For the same price as the Steam game (10 dollar), you get the "planeswalker package" which includes 250 cards for you to make decks from. These 250 cards can only be used to play against other planeswalker decks, and may not be mixed in with other MTGO cards. Sure, you lose a lot of the fancy graphics and the ability to play AI enemies, but you earn a much more reliable game engine and full deck customisation. Plus, if yo uget so gripped by the game, there's always the possibility of venturing deeper into the MTG universe, as nearly all cards (Except some of the very old series) are released on MTGO as well (At monetary prices, of course).

I agree completely

I bought Runespell earlier on today and have been playing it till now. It's an absolute delight to play (my first card-based game). Everything about it is high quality and professional

I recommend this game wholeheartedly

I'd recommend this if you don't have the people to play the physical game with, if you do and just want a diversion I'd say get the DotP 2012. Simply due to how much MtG costs, and paying to play both physical and online could get costly.
