stika: Oh I thought this thread about the 3do console, not the company :P
Same here lol. Back when it was first released what kid could afford to buy a $700 console.
I didn't get mine until the early 2000s. Hella cheap on the used market and lot's of really good games.

I actually convinced my parents to buy it when it was that much, I can't remember how they must have been impressed with some games too. When all is said and done however I think it cost me much less than anything in the current gen did, I basically rented all my games for 3D0, used the heck out of that thing and never had hardware trouble once. Compared to my collection of 3 red ringed xbox 360s and 2 ps3's with f'd up blu-ray drives, and all with much less play time than my 3D0.

Star Control 2 is by far my favorite. Sure, it was a dos game too, but I experienced the 3do version first.

Road Rash was great, of course. I still play it now and then.

Wing Commander 3 even captivated me enough that I bought the 3do version of the CH flightstick.

Captain Quazar was a lot of fun to play co-op too.

The 3do came at a time where my pc was aging badly (386/33 if I recall correctly) and couldn't play many titles, so i spent a great deal of time with the console as an alternative.

stika: I always wanted to play Killing Time
The controls felt a bit clunky, even at the time, but something about the atmosphere of Killing Time has always appealed to me. Those ghostly old ladies throwing whiskey bottles and the groaning noises you'd hear when traveling the sewers always creeped me out. I understand the PC version is a bit different than the 3do one , but it's a title I wouldn't mind seeing here someday.

They were clunky? How so?
Also, what changed in the PC version? I saw some YT videos and I noticed the FMVs in the PC version were of an overall lower quality but that was it

The controls weren't that bad, I suppose. They did involve some slightly awkward multi-button presses though. For instance holding B while moving the D pad to look up and down so you can't look and move at the same time very well. I believe you had to hit A + B to switch weapons, etc. Aiming felt a bit slow and stiff in general as well.

As for the differences in the versions, I believe that the PC and Mac versions had different graphics and altered level design, but whether these are for the better or worse I'm not sure as I've only played the 3do version.

Ah I see. Still, I'd love to own a 3do one day.

Hopefully when I get a job :P
Although I never owned a 3DO. I have a favorite.

Pumbers Don't Wear Ties :-)

While Plumbers Don't Wear Ties no doubt deserves its reputation, take a look at Love Bites for the 3DO.

Now, I'm probably permanently labeling myself as a giant nerd (and possible perv) by admitting this and I'm sure this will come back to haunt me one day , but I actually rented this title from a local video store back when I was in college. Much like the author of the article linked above, I was expecting, perhaps, a naughty adult themed game, but what I got was low-grade pixelated cable quasi-porn, with no game to be found. Looking back, this was not one of my prouder moments.

At least Plumbers Don't Wear Ties attempts, albeit feebly, to include some 'gameplay' in the form of choice and consequence.
