Dungeons of Dredmor at least doesn't require Steam to play (ie you can pull out the game folder and uninstall Steam and still run it) though it does still fall under that first category of indie games only available on Steam, so perhaps (without actually having seen any developer feedback about it) they'll release it elsewhere eventually.. then again so was Terraria at one point, so who knows heh.

Ah, thanks for that bit of info! I'm a bit wary though because, as you say Terraria was like that at first and then they bloody added Steam DRM into it in an update. I felt a bit cheated by that...

Dungeons of Dredmor looks good, but I think I'll wait and see.

Hehe, I did it of my own volition. :P

Any Steam exclusives that you're aware of that haven't already been mentioned would be welcome though!

I'm leaning towards Dungeons of Dredmor, but I'm waiting on an email from the developers about whether they're going to sell it anywhere DRM-free. :P

I'll have to check when I get home, maybe someone can correct before I get a chance, but I bought Serious Sam HD 1 and 2 at retail in disc form. I make a really good habit of checking for mandatory internet connection or steam account required and I didn't see that on the packaging (haven't installed yet since I already owned the originals).

The HD versions are Steamworks titles.

Both games are listed on the Steam Retail CD Keys article. And looks like it needs Steam.

Found the box and checked. Only says it needs acceptance of the enclosed agreement. No mention of activation, online use, or any sort of internet under the requirements. However the installer is indeed a steam installer. Wish I had learned this closer to purchase, I would have returned it :( (glad I kept the originals) ;)

That -is- odd.

Retail games that I've bought and that require Steam always said so on the box.

You can still sell or trade the product keys since they need Steam activation and there is no need for the box. You can even try to trade them here on the GOG forum.
