However while it sounds good, read between the lines and you see his rather sinister motives. On the PC he can charge what he likes, it's all profit with no margin for the console makers and he want's his own live service which sounds suspiciously like UbiDRM.

I would say it sounds like something a bit more in house, a fully monetized version of Battle.net.

Just sounds like Bobby is mad that he's not getting a cut of the money from the XBL and PSN profits. I'm guessing he approached Sony and MS saying "gimme, gimme, gimme!" and after they told him to fuck off whining publicly was the only option he had left.

Crassmaster: I would say it sounds like something a bit more in house, a fully monetized version of Battle.net.

It has been a rather persistent rumor with the changes to Battle.net that it will become a storefront. It could be his long term goal for the service. It just makes me worried knowing he will be in charge of the pricing. At least if they stick to the one install activation it will already be far more palatable than UbiDRM's always online requirement.

PCs can already be plugged into TVs, but nobody does because the resolution is crap! Okay, was crap, I suppose hi-def isn't too bad for now, but still!

does he think people would play these karaoke games on a pc? Ohhhh no maybe he's thinking they could get this over on all those already hooked to just add another piece of plastic to their rock band kit that will play the game instead of an xbox.

Well, fact is that he's being pretty sensible here. There's no need for consoles, they're not providing any services that cheap PCs can't provide, and way too much money is going into the console manufacturers pockets instead of going to the people who create the games.

The idea made sense in the days of the Apple II, but even with HD, resolution and pixel density are still crap compared to a decent-sized computer monitor.
