I'm a sucker for complete packs i just hope I like some of the games. I installed the first one, added the texture pack but not sure if i am ready to play an older game yet but i want to play in a row. Is there a big graphical difference between Gothic 1 and 2?

Some, but not THAT big. Dude you just bought an awesome pack that will keep you for months. Enjoy it.
Gothic 1 is a very primitive game of sorts - it's not horrible, but the controls are confusing, the world isn't that interesting and generally, I never had that much fun with it.

Gothic 2, however .... that's a brilliant game. It's a very sold RPG and while the graphics have aged a bit, it's a blast to play. I enjoy it a hell of a lot more than Gothic 3.

To rank them:

Gothic 2
Gothic 3
Gothic 1

Gothic 3 seems more action-oriented and I do miss the regular towns of Gothic 2.
What I really liked abou the Gothic games (1+2, never played 3) was the fact that everything was made and placed by a designer. No leveling of any kind.

It really felt lik an accomplishment to advance in equipment and level, as those dread snapper became nothing more than a distraction.

That, accompanied by some great exploration gameplay, really made those games for me.
Mmm, Gothic <3

I'd say that there is a bit of a difference between G1 and 2, not as much in graphics quality, but general polish.
I tried applying some texture pack to G1 recently, but I got strange bugs and glitches, so I just played it vanilla.

Gothic 3 with the latest community patch is one of the best games I ever played, I waited till this year to play it seeing as the release was sooo messed up and buggy. Totally worth every second of my life i put into it..

Gothic 1 and 2 are also amazing, i remember picking up Gothic 1 by chance when it first came out and I've been doggedly following Piranha Bytes since those early days.

Gothic 4 is a total pisstake and not worth mentioning.

The Risen series so far is also incredible :)

... And you have immediately met more, stronger opponents, who cut you off another areas when you managed to beat the old horribly strong ones. That managed to take all sence of accomplishment out of the game for me - placement of mosntes themselves acted as level scalling and boundaries at the same time. I'll never be able to overcome that in gothic games.
I've played some Gothic 2 and while I like it so far I don't find it as great as many seem to.
Thanks everyone for the ideas and input

if you like the Gothic series you should try Risen.

It's from the same developers Piranha Bytes.

Next year they release Risen 2. I can't wait for it
I started Gothic II, and I can see the appeal. It's got the sort of lush depth of a game like Baldur's Gate II, but also the sandboxiness of the Elder Scrolls games. But I was put off by the controls and uncompromising difficulty. Some day I'll give it another try.

Once you get the controls of the combat then the game is one of the best RPG's. You are only a bad fighter at the begin. Once you become expert (above 30%) or even a master (60%) you can fight much better. It is part of the skill system. Also if Night of the Raven is installed with G 2 i would recommend you play it wihout. The add on past in those days was an add in and made the game more difficult. So if you are really new to the game you could start with G 1 and then G 2 and then with the add on.
Nice I can't wait to play them, also why isn't Gothic 3 listed in the catalogue?

I haven't written the game off at all. I'm just kinda putting it on hold until I get sick of Morrowind :3. Then I'll be free to experience it in all its glory.
I bought the Gothic Complete pack and didn't hardly play it. Not a fan.

Risen spoiled me.
