UPDATE 22.04.2011:
We have uploaded a new version of the Downloader (0.9.0.1218). Please download it at your convenience and let us know if any of the problems you experienced earlier still persist.
Major changes include:
fixed problems with logging on,
the Downloader no longer attempts to move files after changing the destination folder,
you can now change the number of concurrent downloads (1 to 10) in the Downloader's options, in case you think the Downloader is overusing your connection.

UPDATE #2 (22.04.2011):
Version 0.9.0.1224 is out, introducing some backend fixes.

predcon: I was not able to resolve the issue with the Downloader. However, I was able to get the files through the "Download from browser" using the method detailed in this post. I ran it a little long, but if you read all the way through and follow the instructions, it works just fine.

baccilus: Thanks a lot Predcon. You saved me a lot of time I would have wasted downloading this game at 0kb/sec.
Downloading through FDM is a good idea but considering the fact that I have a relatively slow download connection, I think it will have the timeout error really often. Is it ok to download this through torrents? How will I authenticate my game if I do?
Using FDM would bring you the game about the same speed as a torrent, since FDM splits the download into several sections and downloads them at the same time just like a torrent program, so you really have nothing to lose by trying. GOG games use no DRM, so you won't need to "authenticate" them.

I would rather avoid the "Access Denied" error that comes on FDM. But I am not sure if it is OK for me to download from torrents. Can anyone from GOG comment on this? They should also consider the fact that I have been trying to download this game for 44 days now and have also been in contact with support (Firek) but my problem has not been resolved.

The "Access Denied" error only comes if the URL for the download expires, and you only need to worry about that if you have to pause or otherwise interrupt the download. The replacement method is foolproof.

What about when my internet connection conks off which it does for a couple of minutes every now and then.

That's what the URL replacement is for. It allows you to resume an existing download with a "freshly issued" URL without having to download the file from scratch. I don't know how many more ways I can explain that.
Ok thanks Predcon. I wish I knew about the massive problems with the GOG downloader before wasting so much of my time trying to download this game through it. Flashgot+FDM would have been a much more wiser route to take just as you have suggested.
The downloader downloads fine but whenever I try to open it, nothing happens. No notices, no pop-ups, its like I never tried to open it on the first place. Does anyone have tips on how to fix this?

Did you try opening it through the notification area?
Anyone ever get any response from support on the "EI41: bad signature" error with King's Bounty? I can't successfully use the Free Download Manager workaround, apparently because of the game size. It's a 3-part file and after FDM gets through more than half of the second file, it starts getting an "Access denied invalid name or password" response from the GOG server, presumably it hits some sort of timeout.
I see a bunch of people had problems logging in to the downloader back in May last year. I remember I had too, but then suddenly it started working again.

Now I have formatted my computer, got the GOG Downloader and lo and behold the problem is back: I cannot login to the downloader using the same credentials as I log in to the site with.

What should I do?

Keep in mind that capitalization of the email address may complicate issues; write it all lowercase in the downloader and see if that helps things.

Wow, that actually solved it! Thanks a lot :)
I don't know if this is the right topic but in the new NEW downloader (the 3.0.25.0 - march 2012), how does it checks the games versions?

Does it check the installed version or does it try to check the downloaded archive(s)? I have all of my GOG games on an external disk so, if it's the latter, it will never be able to check if I have the latest versions, right?
How's the new one? Been months since ive used it (backed up most of my Gog purchases)
I'm downloading WC4 and it kept stopping or getting to very low download speed, my connection is fine tho. Now it stopped altogether at around 95% and won't just start downloading again.
In short: it sucks.
