A little curiosity: most of posts comparing Steam's offer with GOG's offer (which logically favoured GOG) were deleted by mods. Understandable gesture, but they still can't hide who is better.
They've been doing that in that thread ever since it was first posted and most people stated that GOG were offering the best deal. This is typical of Valve and their goon squad. They think that if they can hide under a rug people will blindly pay over the odds for something. Sadly, most of their fan boys do.

It's not so much 'goon squad' tactics as trying to make a sale. You aren't going to find too many companies accepting of "Hey, go buy this over at this other site instead'" threads on their forums.

While advertising for competitors on a company's forum can certainly be seen as being bad form, the way a company responds to such threads says a fair amount about them. For example, I'd expect a company that's ready and willing to honestly compete on the merits of their own product to either just turn a blind eye or respond with something like "Yes, company Y is offering a similar product, but you may want to buy from us instead because..." The fact that Steam's response seems to be summary deletion of any mention of competing products says less than flattering things about how they see their business model.

These were certainly fanboy goon squad tactics, due the initial way it was handled. Pretty much when someone stated that they would buy games on Steam rather than GOG because "GOG could vanish at any time" the resulting posts explaining that unlike Steam, GOG has no DRM and no reliance on activation servers suddenly went kaputt once certain Valve fanboys started bitching as a result of their insecurity when faced with people who don't worship Valve.
But such posts on the Valve hosted Interplay forum will most likely stay visible as those fanboys don't tend to post outside of General/Off Topic. Then again, it seems the goon squad has indeed followed tot he Interplay section. Their insecurity is *that* bad today.

There's a thread on the fallout forums there that is steam vs gog. The guy is asking for a reason to get it on steam. The first replys he got were get it at gog and he replied asking if anyone would make an argument for him to get it on steam. Quite the fanboy posts there also.
Just looked on steam now and they have sacrafice, kingpin for £6.29 and thats with 10% off while you can buy it here for say around £3.75 or less depending on the current rate of exchange. So for half the price i can get my interply games here with lots of goodies and i know they work on my machine. I wonder where i would buy.
I think though that this is interplay trying to get money as they will need millions for their fallout mmo so selling their back catalogue anywhere posible is a good revenue option.

I will never understand why someone
- want to buy all his stuff from one DD service ,even it's more expensive than the others
- like to run a crap DRM application just to play his games.
-is an achievement whore (What? This game has no achievements? This game sucks!)
Me either. I will most certainly always buy my games from the cheaper or more appealing source. The only exception I make is when a series is involved. If I bought the first part from one service, I will buy the rest from the same service (even if slightly more expensive).
The only reason I make that exception is because it's easier for me to manage such things.

Me too.
Mods are deleting GOG links on Steam forum.
I wouldn't expect anything less from them. Especially seeing who is editing out the site name. It won't be long now before add the site to the banned word filter. Which to me says a lot about how worried they are over a little competition.

doomer: i just need carmageddon titles... on gog or steam =)

now that's a good idea. I haven't played that in years :D
quite lame they are acting that way on steam.
Im already a customer since they started but i never , ever been on their forums :)
By the way i bought the valve value pack back then which contained over 20games :)
about the achievements. When they add something to the game it's fine by me but when it's utterly useless i don't care for them. Like in call of duty there's a guy juming down a whole just to get an achievement. He had the bomb and was the last guy alive.
I guess it wasn't deep enough an jumped in another one the game after. I banne dhis ass then.

When I played Mass Effect I was an achievement whore... =(
Then again those achievements actually had an in game effect. :)

No hard feelings? :)
While Interplay could do with the cash, I like this place to much to grab the titles over there. Plus, I have the ones I want and don't already have on CD.
To a degree I agree with the actions. Afterall, if steam was cheaper for a game you wouldn't want steam links spammed here...
