The Affirmative team "me" is againist capital punishment and its resolve is to abolish while the negative team thinks that we need capital punishment.
This really is not a difficult topic to research yourself.

Quite a few good links on the first page alone...

Yeah - type "against Death Penalty" or something alike in the search engine of ur liking and go.

Also there are several Anti-Death Penalty movements and organisations.
Ever thought about contacting one for materials?
One example would be the "American Civil Liberties Union" .

Well, okay then you're lucky insomuch as logic and reason are on your side on this one. In fact no matter which way you look at it there's no argument for capital punishment.

Well, apart from the fact that it's cheaper than long term incarceration.
And dead guys don't re-offend.

Plenty of arguments for it, hence why it still exists and why it continues to be debated. To properly argue 'for' it, though, you have to argue to change the current system (as one of the common arguments is over the cost, that, in most cases, it's more expensive to put someone to death than it is to imprison them for life), rather than just blanket going 'IT'S GREAT, LEAVE IT'.

For what it's worth I'm against it.

Rodzaju: Don't forget the God argument - ours is not to judge, so we kill them and leave it to God to do the judging. Of course we only kill those we judge to be guilty :)

No it's not. You're forgetting to factor in all the court time and lawyers' fees during the extensive appeals process leading up to the execution.

It seems several hours of a lawyer's time costs more than prisons, prison staff wages etc. Not that the legal profession is in dire need of regulation or anything. :P

If the OP was from China then you'd be onto something.
One thing that keeps me wondering is - aren't large quantities of the americans religious?
Christians? And wasn't there some rule along the lines of "u shouldn't kill"?
So why is the capital punishment still in use in some states?

edit: Sorry if I offend anyone - but this is the picture i get from most of the european media.

Yeah, but that's all the arguments for it amount to. Only China and countries with similar systems can really argue a point in capital punishment's favour. But when you look at China you easily see even more reasons to be against it.

Asturaetus: Christians?
American Christianity is mostly about cherry picking their favourite bits of the Bible, ignoring or explaining away the rest and oh, and money. Yes definitely money. It's about that too.

America is a heavily religious country, but the government itself is mostly secular, despite what the Republicans want. But if you're going along those lines, there's also the 'eye for an eye' argument from the Bible.
