Whitecroc: I've only visited 4chan three or four times - once or twice to one of the "normal" forums by way of link, and twice to see what the fuss about /b/ was. I can't believe I didn't learn after the first time... I don't think I lasted longer than thirty seconds on either visit.

I lasted about the same amount of time. That place is hell. It's where sanity integrity has no meaning. I wouldn't even classify the slavering beasts that inhabit /b/ as human beings.
ITT: Implying all of 4chan is /b/

/b/ is the most popular category on 4chan. I can assume the whole site isn't like /b/, but /b/ is is the first thing I checked out, and fist impressions are everything.

sauvignon1:

A golden rule is not to take 4chan (especially /b/) by any mean seriously. If you take it serious, you lost the game. It's a board where you can post anything, and what do you do by to much freedom? Well, you saw it already. I am not defending it, I am just clarifying that if you want to approach 4chan, you shouldn't be serious about it at all! Even if their posts are racist, homophobe, full of meme and anarchism, do not fall for this. Just a personal advice.
Like the admin himself said:
"The stories and information posted here are artistic works of fiction and falsehood.
Only a fool would take anything posted here as fact."
It's also only for people who have too much freetime. Lot's and lots of freetime. It some surprise some of them are really insane and upload CP, but those fucks get banned rather quickly. Current issue are all those spams from hackers and morons trying to get money and bigger zombie armies.
I think one of the worst boards along /b/, are /x/ , /rk9/, /v/ and /a/ which are also flooded by /b/tards. Not recommended. I only visit /u/,/lit/ /an/ and /co/ for the simple reason, they bring over what they offer. The rest is up to you how much you support each board by being part of a big anonym consensus.
If you already up to more insanity and meaningless memes, you can look at 4chan's wiki, teh Encyclopedia Dramatica:

hardly. take the time, browse the other boards get yourself a more complete picture. I rarely stray from /tg/ myself. /x/ can be good fun too.
I usually lurk on /x/....sometimes they have nice, creepy stories/pics. And visit /w/ and /wg/ when I want to change my desktop wallpaper.
It's not that bad, depending on the section you hang out on. Just be careful about what links you click. Sometimes you can find gems there, metaphorically speaking.

God, going to ED is like descending into the seven circles of hell...on the internet. It's like the f***ed up lovechild of Wikipedia and /b/, only taken to even more extremes.

In that case I'll stay far away from it lol.

You're seven circles of hell comment got me thinking about Dante's Divine Comedy lol. I don't suppose Virgil is there to guide you through Encyclopedia Dramatica?
I banned myself yesterday from 4chan for 30 days.
I've spent way too much time on /sci/: http://encyclopediadramatica.com//sci/
Curiously it used to be one of the most interesting science forums on the WWW until around mid-May..
The board was created in January and it initially benefited from the momentum of another science imageboard called 3.14chan (which was deserted after the creation of /sci/), but the atmosphere deteriorated and now the ratio of interesting and funny threads to copypasta trollshit/worthless posts reached a level low enough to make it feel like a waste of time... (/sci/ doesn't have janitors unlike other subboards)
