I have failed! After buying some crazy amounts of games here on Gog.com last year, I made a resolution that I would buy no more games on Gog.com in 2014. We are not even a full month in and I've lost that battle. Deadlock sale broke me...and then this new Time Capsule/History promo did me in.

It is finished. I lost the battle and willpower to stay on course!

It is so bad that now I sneak out in the hallway at work and quickly check what is the game of the hour on my phone. Thank goodness Gog.com makes you put in the CC# with each purchase because if they had a one-click thing going on...that would be it.

You know what is really sad? I don't even play these games...I just want them. I want them on my virtual shelf. It is like collecting baseball cards at this point (well I guess...I've never really collected baseball cards).

Damn you Gog.com...Damn you and your marketing team....I am weak to you!!

(ps. I say all this with the utmost respect and love to you Gog.com. You guys rock!)
Whoa, you've been here since the very beginning, and this is your first post on the forum?

But yes, the impulse to buy good deals here is quite strong for me too, even with games I know I'll probably never play anyway. My GOG backlog is huge, and it isn't shrinking :-/
Don't worry you've got plenty of company here. More people would be replying to your thread, but at the moment they're busy with the sale, desperately trying to add more games to their backlogs.

Thank you Wishbone. :) Gosh, I hadn't realized that I was a member for such a long time and that this was my first post here on the forum! It is a very nice community. I will enjoy participating more with you all.

Ha ha!! Indeed they must be equally busy with this newest sale! :) Thank you groundhog42!!

Don't beat yourself up over this...there's hundreds if not thousands of members here who buy more than they can actually play. I signed up with 3 particular games in mind, now I have 60 and though I want to play them all, there is no time. Some people here have several hundred games, impossible to play that many.
GOG sales appeal to the most basic human instincts: hunting and gathering. No matter how civilized we think we are, those prehistoric instincts can't be eradicated, just channeled. It could be worse, think about people who collect things that take up physical space and then get into trouble with their wives/husbands because of it.
If you can afford those games I fail to see where the problem is ;) If collecting them makes you happy - that's great, we need some pleasure in our lives. Furthermore the more games you have the safer you are when you have time to actually play them: you'll always find something that fits your current mood and that's great again ;)

Seriously, I still don't get why having many games seems to be a problem for many people lately. I can understand that having just a few of them could cause some troubles but too many? I can only see a good reason to rejoice! And frankly, that's what I'm doing all the time - I have 242 GOG games and... counting ;) Hope you will cheer up too!
welcome to the forums and please do enjoy your stay and don't forget to check out the local dinning table full of to *die* for food. You will just be rolling over in your *grave* after you taste a bite.

As for the topic at hand. Look on the bright side, at least you have a nice big shelf full of games.
But all the games make the shelf look so pretty!
You don't need to feel guilty about it to be honest!

I buy some games from my childhood that I know I most likely won't play again, put having them there in my collection somehow soothes me. "Missed you old friends!" ^^

I guess people say it with tongue-in-the-cheek, as in "I have too much money and no idea where to spend it all!" or "My wife is too sexy and wants sex all the time, and makes so tasty food too that I can't stop eating!".

But either way, I agree with you, and I'd hate to wake up one morning thinking "Damn, now that I finished game X yesterday, I don't have anything else to play.". It is not like I'd start a victory dance over running out of games to play. :)

Anyway, since most genres are ok to me, I don't see that happening in my lifetime (as long as I have a system where play at least some of my games in my collection). My game library (not backlog) just keeps increasing, not decreasing. And that's perfectly fine.

I know my card number by heart. Not because I actively tried to memorize it, I just used it too many times, I have a good memory and now I know it... Don't ever do this!!!

Or maybe it's because it reminds people of their mortality, as in "I will probably die before I ever get to see the ending of game number xyz from my collection". Or they realize there's something's amiss with their priorities. ;)

Some of them - for sure. But others... well I have seen some complains on this forum containing phrases like "it's so depressing how big my backlog is", "I'm sad because I start many games and cannot finish them" and similar. And I think they were genuinely sad because of that. It just doesn't make sense to me ;)

I finish more games than I buy recently but it doesn't bother me at all because:
1) I still have a lot of games I've never played
2) At least 50% of the games I finished fit for a second/multiple playthrough. And I do like replaying some games
So I don't think I'll ever complain that I don't have anything to play.

That's an interesting concept... but definitely not the one I'm willing to share ;) I think I've said that many times that for me video games = fun and if they start bring any negative emotions to my life I'll stop playing them immediately.

Yeah, but isn't that the definition of an addict? That you can't stop doing things, even though they're kind of bad for your wellbeing? ;)

Heh, good point ;) But I'm not worried. ~2003 I stopped playing games for five years. Then again for two years ~2010. And it's not because they were harming me in any way, it's just they didn't entertain me. So I just stopped... And I will whenever it happens again ;)
