It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Maighstir: Yeah, a 256x256 px icon should be large enough to make out the details.

On the other hand, OS X icons can go up to 512x512 (funny, that's larger than the entire screen of the original Macintosh at 512x384). Or is it even 1024x1024 by now (with retina resolutions)?
That's a big-ass icon. You'll need a hell of a resolution to fit more than a couple of those on a desktop. On the plus side, that means that for older games, you can use wallpapers of them for icons :-D

Yes, it was introduced with Windows Vista, since it used a different method for displaying icons. XP doesn't support that feature.

Ah, that is nice to know. I never knew that when I was a Windows user since Windows/286. Silly me. It's so obvious too! lol. On a Mac, they just are bigger. I like that a lot. No need for me to read "Secrets of the Mac Masters" to know stuff like this.

I'm just kidding with you but I did just try this in Windows 7 just now and what I found was 6 out of 14 icons scaled properly, the rest did not change in size. So apparently a lot of Windows developers do not include the assets in their icon files to support larger sizes which kind of negates the feature if a user happens to be aware of its existence to begin with. And also, Windows makes no attempt to scale icons lacking the resources which is just as well I guess given how ugly they would look in that case.

So unfortunately, that is not a solution that will give you 256x256 icons on your desktop consistently.

I didn't know that either. Is there also a way to reset them to their default size afterwards?

Nice tip. I didn't know that one. Thanks.

Travis54: Hi,

Is there a way to get rid of the damn ugly new icons?
Every time i install new games, i get pissed after the second game.
I mean the tiny round ones, that all look the same on the desktop and you can't
tell anymore what's what on the first look. Even the steam client is better than this crap.
If there is some fix for this, please let me know.
Thanks
Well if you like the Steam client better (or hate it slightly less, or whatever) you could always add your GOG games as non-Steam shortcuts to your Steam list, I mean you COULD...

Why would I want to change the icons? Bob Dylan, Freddie Mercury, Don Herbert; they've all earned that status and shouldn't be stripped of it!

Right Click -> View -> Large icons. Was that too hard?

It doesn't enlarge the ones missing assets either smartass.

Is being nice to people too hard for you?

/facepalm

Blame the developers, not the OS.

I was mean or something with that post? Wow, where the crap did you see something even remotely offensive or whatever? -_-

I guess the stereotype of westerns being emotional cry-babies really holds water here.

Did I mention who I blamed? Did I even use the word blame? I did specifically note the developers do not include the assets for the larger icons though. How was that blaming the operating system exactly???

You make a smartass comment like, "Was that too hard" and now you innocently wonder how I might be offended? You must think I was born yesterday or that you are simply incapable of doing any wrong. I won't even venture to guess which it might be.

And then you add more friendly commentary to the end of this reply.

Yeah, you are just a real gem of a human being. So let's not dick around here: FUCK YOU. I have no use for your shitty and often condescending remarks. It is the norm for you to act like a prick. I didn't just show up around here yesterday asshole.

It has nothing to do with where in the world I come from like you so ignorantly imply. I'm just telling it like it is.

Awww, how cute. :D <3 I'll take your post as a compliment. :)

EDIT: Not sure how it is on other planets, but around here, that phrase is used to state how obvious and easy something is, and is not considered offensive at all. Just saying. :p

Well, I guess for you Macedonia must be its own planet. On this side of the planet we happen to be on at least, that is clearly a rude remark. I think you already know that though. You seem like an intelligent person. I find it very, very hard to believe that you do not already know that.

I suppose you could take my post as a compliment. I could have said a lot more that would not have been so nice. :D

Maybe you should look up the word sarcasm in the dictionary. Maybe that would help you to understand what a sarcastic remark is, like the one you made, like the one I reacted to, like the one you pretend now did not happen. I think it is you who is a little out of touch with the planet we live on here.

By the way, your suggestion was also useless, remember? Got any more smart one, maybe something obvious and easy for me?
