I already own Divine Divinity and Divinity 2 while not really having much of a draw towards Beyond Divinity ..... in fact I own two copies of Divinity 2 (one copy is the base game from before the expansion pack while the other is the DKS saga).

so unless the "developer" version roughly translates into "mod support" I really don't have much of a impulse to get this thing.

don't get me wrong, I still want it (mostly because it's new and shiny and I want to support Dragon Commander & Original Sin being day one GOG releases), but for $20 (after I have been overspending lately) I just can't justify getting -another- copy of two games that I already own + a game I don't really care about.

If this were a true Pay What You Want type sale that I could shell out 5-ish bucks for I would so totally go for it, as it is I kinda gotta pass. I'll still keep my eye on it and see if it drops down to something I can tolerate, and by "I" I mean my bank account.

Sorry Larian, I'd love to plop down a wad of cash to support you but I aint got the flexibility to do so ATM.
*applauds*
Get this instead bro.

Lots of SWAG in there.

My biggest biff isn't the deal itself, rather the deceptive use of the phrase "PWYW".
[in agreement]
$12 for fried chicken
$30 for village in
$21 for EINSTEIN Bros (bagles)
$8 for the kings quest games I picked up at the thrift store
$18 for a pile of books (only one was for me, finished it already)
$33 for groceries
$109 for groceries (again)
$12 ice cream
$17 for subway
$18 for fried chicken (again)
$5 for a strategy guide to FFXII + a book for the wife (another thrift store visit)

add in the $28 for the Prometheus 3D pack + a book to kick it over $25 (for the free shipping) and $98 win 7 and a stick of RAM to upgrade my PC (both went on the creditcard so they aint showing yet ...)

all that was since last Friday, I really can't afford to blow any more money on pretty much anything.

But there's no swag in that list! You gotta have swag brah.
fuck me, GG has got KOA up for $17 (base game + both expansion packs) and I finally got around to watching a trailer for Orcs and Men ..... god damn it I need more money.
So your actual problem with the sale is, that you already own games sold. Well, I can see how it makes sale unatractive, but is it really problem of sale?
the problem is that all that I am interested in is the Developers cut material, however I feel that paying nearly $20 for a third version of a game that was released in 2009 to be a bit excessive.

especially since I own the game TWICE thanks to prior shenanigans of full re-releases instead of patches ... I also own Divine Divinity because GOG gave it to me as a preorder bonus to the Witcher 2, which I feel is a little shitty to have me buy it in the process of buying into the Developers cut, after giving it to me as a gesture of "thank you for ordering the Witcher 2 through us instead of someone else who keeps a cut of the money."

honestly, I know that this isn't really GOGs fault ... to my eyes GOG wanted to do a PWYW for the Divinity Anthology but Larian got cold feet and backed out of risking a $2 sale on the box set they wanted to get $40 for ... the compromise is this "bait 'em into a more than $10 (at the least" sale.

honestly, it would be a good sale if this had been for a series where the base entries were not games that GOG hasn't been giving out for free as promotional material .... several times over the years .... and the end game being yet another version of a game that has seen multiple standalone barcodes since it's release.
I also don't like how they're rereleasing divinity 2 for the 3rd time. Kind of a shitty thing to do. Fortunately in this case they've just added a few bells and whistles that I don't care about at all.

The "Developer's Cut" means DKS includes a Developer Mode. There is a video describing that on the D2:DC product page, or I quoted below from its website.
Play the original version, or experience the game like the designers did and fool around with console commands to your heart’s content! Ever wanted to test some new skills on a hoard of a hundred goblins? Go for it! Ever wondered what it would be like to explore the game-world in the guise of a troll? Well there you go! Discover a whole range of spectacular developer commands and feel like a wizard at play!
Other than that there is no difference between DKS and D2:DC (aside from the GOG bonus content / anthology extras).

If you want the extras, then wait for D2:DC to go on sale by itself. If not, Larian is working with Steam and Focus to release a patch for DKS to add the Developer Mode.

There was no re-release instead of patching. There was the original release, then there was an add-on and a release of DKS, the original remastered + FoV. Any changes in the remastering that would not break saved game compatibility were included in FoV, and there was a large conversion patch to change D2:ED + FoV into DKS.

Wooah, wtf, really? Been waiting for this... why right now???? I have too fucking many games to play!
I don't care for it either. In order to get either of the games which I don't already own, I have to pay for the game that I do own. I'm not really sure how that's PWIW, when I don't want to pay for an extra copy that I have to figure out how to convert back into money.

In other words this promo is more expensive than just buying Beyond Divinity if I want it. You don't actually save any money if you have that first game, unless you want the entire bundle.

Sure, I can get Divine Divinity for basically nothing, but I already own that which does me precisely no good.

On a side note, it's kind of funny that Elmo posted a thread about how nobody criticizes GOG during the middle of a period where many people are criticizing this stupid promo.

and then it seemed like suddenly there were lots of "bad GoG" threads!

That seems to be the way that it works, whether or not a given complaint is reasonable, something will trigger it and you get hundreds of complaints.

I remember that during the site shut down stunt, EA arriving sans expansions, the Fallout give away and DK2 being unusable for many. And I'm sure there are other examples.

Kind of funny in a way.
