2011 has been a fantastic year for GOG.com, let's make it even better and make the last push to achieve the 6 million unique downloaded games milestone.

During our presentation at the CD Projekt Fall 2011 Conference we've shared some numbers that show how successful this year was for GOG.com, all that was possible thanks to you - our great community. One of the big milestones we'd like to celebrate with you is the 6 million unique downloaded games! Help us achieve this number and we'll launch a time-limited special offer for all GOG.com users!

Note that when we say "unique games downloaded," that means redownloading games that you have already downloaded before won't increment the counter.

When the counter on the main page of the website hits 6 million, two exciting things will happen. First off, the lucky user who downloaded our 6 millionth unique game will receive everything that's currently in the catalog, absolutely free! Secondly, everyone who has an account on GOG.com will be able to download Broken Sword: Shadow of The Templars Director’s Cut for free, thanks to Sir Charles Cecil and Revolution Software. The offer will be valid only for 48 hours starting from hitting the milestone, so be sure to check GOG regularly or follow us on and [url=https://www.facebook.com/gogcom]Facebook. Let's get cracking to unlock this achievement as soon as possible - it's all in your hands now!

SciFiCat: But wait, does the 6 million download becomes valid upon completion of said download or by initiating it?
and are those new downloads, aka sold copies, or just counting the overall downloads!?
THE QUESTIONS ARE KILLING ME.

Or is the wait? Yes THE WAIT IS KILLING ME TOO.

Now back to counting how many downloads are remaining (not really).

WrathOfTheAngels: Probably this question has been asked many times, so sorry for asking again, but I don't have time to read about 300 posts: the 6 millionth downloaded game is counted when it starts, or when it ends?
well, start or end makes really no difference, in other words: sti cazzi? ;)

I'm sure it means the initiating of a download, as it's kind of hard to determine when you finish it.
I'm sorry but I reckon this countdown is BS , there is no way they are selling a game every second , maybe if it was Steam I would believe it ... hard to believe how many people on this site believe everytning they read on here .. lol

Summary of Answers
1. It is the 6,000,000th download of a game.
2. It is counting the actual download not the purchase. PROOF
3. Games you already own but have not yet downloaded qualify. Once you click to have them downloaded then that is what adds to the counter. PROOF
4. It is the start of the download not the finish. PROOF
5. Downloading a bonus (manual, soundtrack, artwork, etc) does not count. PROOF
6. The counter is not a real-time display of the total figure. It's an approximation. GOG has already explained that it looks at the actual figure, calculates an approximation of the current rate of games being downloaded, and uses that for the script on the home page. AGAIN: it's an approximation not a real-time stat. PROOF
7. Yes, they will know conclusively who #6,000,000 is once it happens. PROOF
8. DB Cooper may or may not be involved. PROOF?

Does that help?

zegweg: There is, you slanderous smoothskins [http://www.gog.com/en/news/new_release_b_17_flying_fortress_the_mighty_8th] ! A flight simulator maybe (which I, personally, dislike) but a new release nonetheless...
Wheez, thank GOG for that... * breathes into paperbag*
for those (old) forgetful people there isnt really a way telling if you ever downloaded a game already or not is there?
Quick, everybody download the free games you haven't downloaded yet! ;)

Ooooh aren't you a knowledgable GOG Fanboy ! :p

Joking aside Tanx for the info ... I take it back. ;)
Does it work with free games not already downloaded?
Did my part, downloaded couple of games and with a same breath I noticed that Torment has soundtrack. Always liked the music in that. =)
It's a good thing i haven't downloaded all of the Ubi catalog yet. Just need to sort the downloaded from the not-downloaded.
How does the script deal with games that are in multiple files? Any file triggers the counter, or just the exe?;)
No, they aren't selling a game every second. But it's not a countdown of purchases. It's a countdown of downloads.
