Hi
I've got the complete anthology and am considering buying this, but then I saw the insane specs. I understand the processor, but an Nvidia 8800 and 2GB of RAM?
Is this necessary. Also, any impressions?
Like any paradox game, avoid it the first six months or perhaps the first expansion, it's bugged, and even people with good PCs are laging like hell. Though I'm sure that with a bit of patience, this game will be a blast.
Way too much words and numbers for my taste...
Great game, but I don't have fun playing it, it feels a lot more like homework...
I got it, but I haven't played yet. I'll let you know when I do.
Anyway, what Narakir says is true - as most Paradox games (developed in-house), HoI3 will need a few patches to become stable and fully playable, and an expansion or two to really reach its full potential. On the other hand, buying it and playing it now will not only ease your transition into the inevitable changes that future patches will bring, but also make you appreciate more any changes that may come (and have a voice on how things will change, as Paradox is quite open to user feedback on that matter).
I'm definitely getting this when it's retail release comes here, which is the 26.08. Should be as great if not better as the predecessor for WW2 hobby historians like me.
I don't have this game, but I understand the specs are high because the systems it models update on an in-game hourly basis. There is also suspicion that it has memory leaks.
I was looking for a good digital download deal on Hearts Of Iron Anthology, but I'm not able to find it as a package.
Will probably get the retail Anthology edition as it contains HOI platinum and all the HOI2 releases.
I did consider taking a risk and pre-ordering HOI3 with HOI2 as a freebie throw in, but it was still more expensive than buying these seperatley on retail.

All that you really need is HoI 2 : Doomsday. It's a standalone...the original HoI 2 with a bunch of improvements and an expanded timeline. If you want, you could also grab the Armageddon expansion (which requires Doomsday, it won't work on vanilla HoI 2), but Armageddon is online download only.
As for the third game, I was really disappointed in the demo. How could the map be THAT wrong?! And what made them think people wanted them to get rid of the frigging auto sliders for production?! Considering those are being put back in with the 1.2 patch (due out end of Aug/start of Sept), clearly NOBODY wanted them gone.
Thanks for the info Crassmaster. HOI2 Doomsday it is then!

Quite simply, there are cities and the like in the wrong place geographically.
The HoI 3 demo crashed on me before I even moved an army!
Can the demo be patched as well?

Stalingrad, come on Stalingrad not some city in Sibera, the most important city and battle of WW2 isn't in the right place where it should be, how could have the beta testers let such a thing happen ? Honestly, the current state of things urges you to try/stay with HOI2 which is cheaper and will be nearly bug-less with the next community patch, plus there are tons of good mods and community improvements for it.

They're claiming they placed Stalingrad where they did for balancing reasons (probably to make it a lot harder for the Germans to capture, like it was in WW2), but I feel that's just a load of horseshit.
I expect the maps to be accurate, and that does not mean placing Stalingrad halfway to Vladivostok. They've also gotten the location of several other historically insignifact cities like New York wrong.
Apparently stuff like New York is going to get fixed in an upcoming patch, but Stalingrad stays where it is due to gameplay concerns. Can't they just scale up the difficulty of taking it otherwise? It sort of ruins the realism for me when such an important target is placed nowhere near it's correct location.
At least the map is a lot more modable in HoI3. If Paradox aren't fixing it, I'm sure there are plenty of fans who will.
