darthspudius: buying a new mother board just to find out it's faulty after spending all the time installing it... *sigh*
Yeah, it was an Asus and you never want to have to deal with their customer service if you can avoid it.
Took me 3 RMAs to get them to replace it with another refurb'd.

The shitty part is they test it and if they claim it works fine they bill you for it. Miserable little bastards!

Don't you usually RMA back to the company you bought it from? I haven't had the pleasure of an RMA in a long time.

I was past the first month to send it back to Newegg, so I started trying to get it resolved with Asus.
It was having an odd and intermittent issue of devices on my pci express bus crashing
I'm not sure what tests they ran on it the first two times if anything past power up, but I kept getting the same board back with no change or new problems. (after the first return the onboard audio developed a high pitch whine)

I hate it when they do that. Im pretty sure they dont test the things at all.
Yeah, you have no real way of knowing what they do or if.
The experience did sour me to Asus. Their products are decent when they're working, but that was a nightmare.
It doesn't matter too much who you use, if you need to return a product you're going to get the run around on your dime.
The only somewhat pleasant RMA experience I've had was working with Corsair for headset replacement.
Both times have been quick and painless..

Corsair memory has problem been the only RMA I have had in the last five years, but it was very painless. I have dealt with Crucial before and they were good as well. Now that I think about it, so was seagate. Had a bad external 2.5" hard drive that I accidently dropped..RMA'd it and very easy to replace. The only negative with the Seagate, was I had to pay for the return shipping, but it was my fault the drive was damaged so I ate the cost. They also cross-shipped the drive which was nice (I think it was an extra $5 or $10), but that way I had the proper packaging for sending it back.
