The page says they're experiencing a too high level of traffic. I've never seen such a message there before and they just made it through a sale so busy they ran out of keys whilst remaining working fine. It's been there since I first checked it a while ago and the blog doesn't mention any downtime. So it it a denial of service attack or something else do you think?

I remember a while back they were giving away free games, and it was impossible to reach the site.

So it might be related to that.

Or maybe that 40% off Football Manager 2011 is making all those Brits foam at the mouth. :p
It's strange because they sold Civilization 5 at half price at the site stayed up but now the main site has a message and the account page gives a "504 Gateway Time-out" before now displaying the same message.

At the moment they're selling Rome: Total War for 75% off but they've had the same sale but on different games in the franchise for the last 3 days. 75% off isn't much of a saving on this game as Steam has it for £4.99 so pretty much a -50% sale.

Edit: Me continually refreshing won't help matters. If it's up for anyone when they check please post here so I can see if it was only temporary.

It's normal, everyone is tying up the server sending complaint letters to tech support.

It's actually a really good site if they're offering a Steam key. I really don't like messing with Capsule and the file they give you to back up can only be accessed by Capsule.

It's like Stardock, when you finally find where they hid your install file, it's a file that can only be read by Stardock's client.

Yeah, I know Steam is very similar but ten years from now I expect Steam to still be there.

The tech staff at GMG have been dragged out of bed//pub//breakfast//playing games to look into the problem. They're working with their network supplier right now to figure out what is going on since apparently it's nothing quite so obvious as a DDOS. The problem is intermittent, it seems to stop as soon as someone starts looking at it closely. Not being a system administrator or network engineer myself, that's all I can say for now. They promised to post updates on their blog.
Update:

Difficulty in getting onto the site
We have been experiencing problems with getting people on to our site. Things seem to have improved now, and, as far as we can see, people are getting on without problems. Apologies if you were unable to get into the site earlier – and our current offer, Rome Total War: Gold Edition is still available!

It's apparently been sorted now. Tanks for the responses. I tried downforeveryoneorjustme.com but it showed as being up when it was but with the problem screen..
