Lexor: As every contest-starter it was GOG's own will to lead the contest this way (on the same rule you could complain about thewishingwell). You, and everyone else, have still the chance to win something so I'd not to worry so much.

csmith: I agree with you both. GameRager made a lot of sense in his comments earlier in the thread.
I did?!? There's a first time for everything I guess. *Marks date and time in book*

What gog should do is put codes to Master of Orion 3, that way the servers wouldnt be overloaded.

sharktejo: why don't GOG give a code by email to the oldest users that always supported the cause, the major code redemers today, are new users that created the account only for the codes (aka bloodsuckers), this is unfair. This is bad planing my friends!
Probably because they don't want to run the risk of upsetting newer customers, who'll likely cry favouritism.

Not to mention, what if there were (hypothetically) a user that had been here since the site's inception but only had 2 games, and another who joined yesterday but already has 10? Which of those would you call 'supportive of the cause'?

Nothing personal, I just tend to dislike the idea some people have that since they joined before others, they're somehow 'better'.

Stiler: When they posted all the ROA codes on twitter I opened it within a minute, but all I got were the "world globe" page when the site was under too much load, so I wasn't able to get any.

The time that the pages loaded every code was gone :(.

At least gog is doin ga variety, both the "first come" type of giveaway and the post and randomly chosen, so there different ways to win, just have to be lucky.
Stiler, I had that, but what I did was to try a few codes at a time and keep refreshing until it told me if the code was redeemed or not. Eventually, I found one which had not been claimed, and I went with that one.

As you said, you just need to keep at it in order to claim the prize, even if you have to become accustomed to seeing a globe.

MaskedCreep: Umm, you guys really think that a lot of people made an account just to take part in contest?
Not really, they're just lurkers or simply don't visit the forums. Notice that in the GOG giveaway thread there's a whole bunch of rep 1 and 2 posters and yet their registration dates are not all Dec 2011.

To be fair, the oldest users have been getting codes left and right from the community itself. These very forums constantly hold all sorts of contests from wonderful posters who gift games and extra codes away. Let the new guys get their shinies and we may end up with a bigger community. And like I said in the previous paragraph, look at the registration dates. They're not all from this month.

I find it funny forum server crash happened AFTER contest was already over :P People from different timezones probably noticed it and didn't realize that. Anyway, favoring older users is blatant elitism and thats not really friendly community. Also, like people already said, there were a lot of users with 1 rep but even two year old account.

The two-stage checkout process really got me. I was one of the first to see the code list, but then the servers got hammered and I was stuck at the 2nd stage, then the code got redeemed by someone else, so.
It's free, promotional stuff, you guys. The person or institution that gives said stuff has the choice how to give that away, and complaining about it is in really poor taste.
"It's stupid to give a million dollars away like this, do it like *this* (...so I could also have a chance, you know)"
Meh, I accept the fact I won't get a code, so I don't worry about it and don't bother trying. Kudos to GOG for doing the giveaways, and congrats to those lucky enough to grab a code.

*edit* Besides, I won NOX in AnonymousGiftBot's giveaway, so I'm a happy camper! :)

OK never mind, let them have it, i already have some cash reserved for the 50% off giveaway, i were only upset because i'm almost certain that a little minority of people that created accounts this week will sell them with profits at mind. Nevertheless i'm happy for the grown community of true old gamer's out there. And let the 50% OFF frenzy begins.
;)

I also can't wait for the sale to start, I have already earmarked which games I intend to purchase as soon as the sale starts.

So you may enter that competition as well to get a chance for wining AS EQUAL for anybody.
