GOG is gifting games, can we stop whining?

inb4: I did not redeem any gift code.
I don't think I've ever "won" anything that I haven't worked for, and am simply grateful for the chance to do so. Of course it would be nice if there was some magical super fair way of them doing it, but I haven't seen anyone suggest one so far.

Hawk52: I'm not the most observant person in the world, so I'll let the announcement bit going.

But you have to admit doing freebies like this when a large amount of the population of the site (which could go for any time they chose) is pretty crappy. If they reversed it and released the next batch at 4 PM PST but that's three AM elsewhere, that's still crappy. People aren't even in the running to get codes.
As I said they are giving codes every few hours. Now that people know they are doing so they have the option to bookmark the forum and come back a bit before the next batch will hit(or the ones after that/etc) and try again. And even if they don't "win"....is it so bad? Is a 6 dollar game worth bickering over if one doesn't get it?

I mean, Gog doesn't even have to give us these codes anyways....they are being nice in doing so so we shouldn't chastise them over every little detail IMO.

Smannesman: I really dislike this method as well, I wasn't even awake then so I had no chance.
They really should only do fair giveaways, they know they have customers all over the world.
There's no such things as a 100% "fair" giveaway. It will always come off as unfair to someone, for some reason.

GOG already has methods. Contests.

I have nothing against what they're doing in the other thread. I won't be entering personally, but I think that's fair. You have to enter a pool of randomly drawn people with everyone having the same statistical chance is fair.

Randomly throwing out codes where fifty people happened to F5 quicker then others isn't. It's that simple.
i dont think anyone is ungrateful here, again its about the METHOD that atleast i raise questions about, and how people miss it because of timezones.

noone is complaining about gog giving out codes or missing it perse when you saw the codes on time.

Cleidophoros: Thousands of people are checking out twitter, facebook and gog.com right now and they gave 50 codes. And you are upset you didn't get one? What more do you want, they should email you the codes or should they give thousands of them?
Jebus, you people are interesting.
THIS. People will complain over the stupidest little things, it seems. Person x will complain about the amount of codes given out, while person y will complain about the time or method of the release, etc.

Exactly!

And anybody who didn't own MoO before should be whipped anyway ...

By complaining about the delivery method one is technically complaining about HOW Gog gives out codes.....and as I said 3 times so far: Gog is giving out codes every few hours. This means every time zone hopefully will get a chance. If people miss it because others were faster then, sorry, but too bad. That's the(sorry about the pun here) "luck of the draw" in action. There's always next time, and the next contest, so why obsess so much over this one?

And what about(btw) all the people who drop codes randomly at odd hours for various games on the boards(like wishingwell for example)? Should we ask every one of them to also be more fair to all people of all timezones?

lugum: 4 hours is 4 hours not 5 hours. do you go to an appointment at 9 when you supposed to be there at 8? regardless with 30 minutes later or earlier it still breaks your point of it being totally random. that would be with no time announced

on a sidenote why am i being shown offline for a few days now....?
There's a forum bug, everyone is like that.

I think you're being unreasonable myself. This is a giveaway, there's already another giveaway going on right now that doesn't require f5. There are giveaways going on Twitter and Facebook. They've said they'll be doing more giveaways over the course of the weekend of various types. Enter the ones that interest you. Heck as I said there are plenty of people who already own these games. Should they gripe because this round they couldn't have won anything no matter what they did?
We have a variety of games we’ll be giving away over the course of the next 48 hours, through here on GOG.com as well as through our main social media channels of Facebook and Twitter. If you’d like to maximize your likelihood of winning sweet holiday loot from GOG, be sure to follow and friend us!

crazy_dave: If you didn't like this competition, there will be more and they will be different. Heck I have the only game they were gifting in this round and even if I had both, I shouldn't complain because I am not getting a gift from that round. The chances of winning are small anyway.

They are even running a different giveaway right now! Just pick one 5.99 game and enter into the blizzard thread, you have as much chance as winning as anyone else since they are choosing winners at random - no f5 required.
Honestly, they're giving so much to their customer. I don't think i should complain when things didn't go around my way.

Just to be clear, I'm not upset I didn't get any.
I just think it's a retarded way of giving out things.
It's still a nice thing they're doing.
There is a huge difference between whining and raising legitimate complaints about the implementation of a method.

"THERE'S NO EXTRAS?!?!" is whining.

"I think this method is unfair and biased against certain populations within the community. I think we should use contests instead" is not whining.

Nothing but a huge argument is going to come from this, so I'm outty as the kids say.

You’ve got a point there.

A lot of contests are unfair to different groups of people too depending on what the requirements of the contest are. Like taking the obvious example of already owning the games they are gifting out ...
