MauroR: Exactly this. It's unfair as usual. Gog.com you've disappointed me.

Absolutely not, This is the most unfair way to do holidays giveaways.
They could probably give infinity codes out to 90% of the entire world and you'd complain if you were among the 10% who lost out, wouldn't you?
avatar
wormholewizards: But everybody will get Empire Earth for free. Is that unfair?
Some people don't just look a gift horse in the mouth, they fill it full of buckshot for it's trouble.
avatar
lugum: not getting my point. as i said in another post there is a plethora of other options
they could have done which would have been more fair for everyone like the contests they did before.

this way its just a f5 competition
This way IS fair, though. It's random as all hell, which makes it equally fair(or unfair) for everyone....as no one knows the exact moment the codes will drop barring the mods themselves.

Can I have an opinion or you have just bother me? And don't put in my mouth things I haven't said.
@gamerager

its not random, they said in the other topic that the new codes will be given in 4 hours

Could you explain to me the analogy that you just replied to me? Sorry English is my secondary and i'm usually poor when it comes to idiom and analogy.

I never put words in your mouth. I made/posed a hypothetical question above, not a factual(or me presenting my opinions as such) statement.

The assumption you're making though is that everyone knew of the freebies. It's 4:55 here right now. The codes got released at 3:30-ish. Anyone with a decent sleep schedule on the PST (IE not me) had no shot whatsoever.

And I was online but had noooo idea any of this happening.

Looking a gift horse in the mouth means those who don't accept a gift for some reason(they turn it down due to suspicion of the gift giver or etc), or those who accept a gift and then spurn or ridicule the giftgiver for not giving it in a certain way or not giving more.

Which is why Americans and others have the saying "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth."....as in be happy with what is given and accept it without insult.

That doesn't mean it will be 4 hours EXACTLY......they could post them in 3 1/2 hours, or 5 hours even.

Thanks. That's really useful site. I'll bookmark it.

Yes but they said they are releasing batches of codes every so often(presumably over most time zones), giving those in most time zones a chance as more batches are released.

Also they DID say they were giving these codes away in their prior news thread.
We have a variety of games we’ll be giving away over the course of the next 48 hours, through here on GOG.com as well as through our main social media channels of Facebook and Twitter. If you’d like to maximize your likelihood of winning sweet holiday loot from GOG, be sure to follow and friend us!
If you didn't like this competition, there will be more and they will be different. Heck I have the only game I was interested in that they were gifting in this round and even if I had both, I shouldn't complain because I am not getting a gift from that round. The chances of winning are small anyway.

They are even running a different giveaway right now! Just pick one 5.99 game and enter into the blizzard thread, you have as much chance as winning as anyone else since they are choosing winners at random - no f5 required.

4 hours is 4 hours not 5 hours. do you go to an appointment at 9 when you supposed to be there at 8? regardless with 30 minutes later or earlier it still breaks your point of it being totally random. that would be with no time announced

on a sidenote why am i being shown offline for a few days now....?

I'm not the most observant person in the world, so I'll let the announcement bit going.

But you have to admit doing freebies like this when a large amount of the population of the site (which could go for any time they chose) can't possibly get anything is pretty crappy. If they reversed it and released the next batch at 4 PM PST but that's three AM elsewhere, that's still crappy. People aren't even in the running to get codes.

I really dislike this method as well, I wasn't even awake then so I had no chance.
They really should only do fair giveaways, they know they have customers all over the world.
Thousands of people are checking out twitter, facebook and gog.com right now and they gave 50 codes. And you are upset you didn't get one? What more do you want, they should email you the codes or should they give thousands of them?
Jebus, you people are interesting.
