Strigoitsepesh: I have to say, I've never really understood the attitude. I use Mac computer simply because I like them better, so what? I always see PC users being antagonistic to Mac users. What's the point? We're not all mindless robots just out to get the newest thing. I've owned a PC, and I've owned a Mac. I made a choice. I really just don't understand why whenever I wander into a thread about Mac support I am greeted with annoying stereotypes and hate.
If you used other systems and chose Mac because it is better for you, great. That is exactly how it should work (use whatever is best for you).

I think most people dislike Mac users because they don't choose it because it is better, but because it is "cool". Or at least, this is the kind of Mac user they are exposed to the most.

Perhaps those that choose Mac for actual reasons are just quiet about it while those who pick it for being cool like to trumpet the fact, which would explain the stereotype.

Soooo... I downloaded Crusader because I already bought it and it turns out it's a standalone version of Boxer. Now that's great because Boxer kicks ass, but where all all the options gone we could tweak with Boxer? I know that GoG games come preconfigured which is great but sometimes I like to change a few settings. You know what else I like? Being able to access the config EXE. With Boxer I just need to launch the game while holding the alt key and I'd get a DOS prompt and a list of all the executables at the bottom, but that's not the case with the standalone version. Really, why remove options from the user? Alun Bestor put great effort into making Boxer's interface as non-intrusive as possible and at the same time as powerful as possible and it was perfect. Why mess with it?

kodeen: I think the reason you see more Linux users on this site currently is because Linux users are already expecting to jumping through hoops getting software from other platforms running on theirs, while Mac users generally aren't. With this new Mac support, I expect the amount of Mac users on the site to surpass the Linux users in a reasonably short amount of time.

xyem: But catering to the Linux users who are already here would be "Customer love". We're the ones who have helped make GOG profitable enough to add a new OS.. Mac users (who aren't here) get a years worth of development time. Linux customers don't get a month of creating and uploading .tar.gz's which requires.. no development time. Seems somewhat skewed. I do think the idea of a "retro" Mac gamer is kind of weird. Aren't they all too pre-occupied with shiny-ooo-this-looks-nice things to be retro gamers? :D [1] [1]I jest of course, but that is the typical Mac user image as far as I know.
Exactly my thoughts. I own 200+ games from GOG. Xyem you own the entire collection as far as i know, you give free games every week. Every week! And we are Linux users. Not just us there are many Linux users that support GOG. Damn it we have 7000+ votes for Linux! Yet again, we are the excluded child. Damn it GOG. You shouldn't done that. I shall look forward for Steam from now on. At least they are going to support Linux.

kodeen: Most Mac users are very reasonable people, and indeed I would be tempted to get one if their hardware flexibility and pricing were a little different (I really do prefer OSX). I'm more kinda poking fun at the people who post on sites like macrumors.com.
They're not all bad there - I actually just posted there to let people know classic games on the Mac - what have I done, what have I done!

EDIT: I see they've posted an official news story now.

But yeah on those kinds of sites and many tech sites too people still engage in the OS wars (and mobile OS wars) like it is the 90s. I don't know why people do that - the ecosystem for a lot of these platforms is pretty healthy, it seems wasteful to argue about it.

Steam is giving official support to Linux - Valve is much, much, much bigger and Steam has been around far longer. GOG is a small company and relatively recent. It's grossly unfair to compare them. Be patient.

I mean the level of unofficial support is pretty much what GOG already gives! How different really is offering non-Windows/Mac files? It's the first step to porting and usually the easiest to get the game files out ...

Desura doesn't have a Macintosh client? I didn't really know whether that was so or not. All the same, they definitely sell Windows, Macintosh, and Linux games. Not sure why you'd want to use the client, anyway. It's still pretty damn clunky and buggy, even on Windows.

PaulH: Depressing. I love GOG, but Apple are the polar opposite of everything GOG stands for. They should have nothing to do with any Apple platform. Surely it's only a matter of time before they quietly abandon their no-DRM policy in order to be able release games for iOS.
I'm sorry, but this is really bullshit. May I remind you that Apple was one of the first to change their iTunes songs to DRM free? Also, I can copy around 90% of my applications between computers without any issues, simply by drag&drop, and my old Mac games rarely had even a serial number requirement, contrary to their Windows versions. OS X is also not iOS, you don't have to jailbreak a Mac to install anything from outside the Appstore. Please, before making such statements do a little research.

You can download the games with a browser anyway, there's no need for a client on Mac. ;)

The reason I'd rather use the client. It serves as a launcher for the games, as do most clients. However I was never sure if they did sell Mac games, it only says on their website that they were working on a version for Mac (I believe they've been saying that since last year, way too long). LOL Not to mention once they were giving away a game for free, but in order to actually GET the game you had to use the client. Which kind of sucked because I didn't get the game... however I later got that exact same game from the IndieGameStand, so no loss for me I guess.

Also worth noting all Mac software published by Apple is DRM free (even in the MAS.)

And when you take a Mac out of the box it works right away, you don't need to unlock the OS.

There is a bunch of conf files but no Crusader. Never mind, I'll just stick with Boxer as before, I'm just baffled that GoG would remove features from Boxer.

Ooooh. Nicely done, GOG. My Mac might be out of order right now, but this definitely counts in your favour. Will continue to buy games furiously and needlessly. My backlog, it aches... and my wallet, too.

Also, dagnabbit, I missed out on the conference. Set up an alarm and everything, only to sleep through it. Argh.
