If you preordered Botanicula on GOG.com or have been paying attention to this quirky adventure game, you very probably heard all of the noise around the Humble Botanicula Debut and how some users were left rather unhappy about paying $8.99 for a preorder of the game while people who bought it on day one could pay whatever they wanted for it and they got more goodies than the GOG.com preorder provided.

This left an unsurprisingly sour taste in some gamers’ mouths, and we were just as surprised by the launch of the Humble Botanicula Debut as anyone else was. As soon as we saw the bundle, we reached out to the guys at Amanita about providing our users with something in return for their preorders; we got them to agree to give us a number of goodies from the bundle, and we’re giving you and every other user who bought the game before 12:00 GMT on the 20th of April will receive a few things. Everyone who bought Botanicula before we published this news will automatically be getting Machinarium to your shelf on Monday, and we’ll be emailing all of those purchasers with links where they can download the full soundtrack and a special artbook of Botanicula designs and character sketches.

Finally, we wanted to give you guys something that you couldn’t get in the Humble Bundle to make sure that you didn’t feel like you got a raw deal. To that end, courtesy of our fine friends at CDP RED, we’re happy to let you know that we’re also giving you and everyone else who already bought Botanicula a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut! This game will also be on your shelf on Monday, so look for it then.

At GOG.com, we’ll never knowingly disappoint you, and while this preorder mishap may have made you a little unhappy, we hope that you enjoy Botanicula--it’s a fantastic game and many of us here at the office are fans--and, if you’d like to say “thanks!” to our pals at CDP RED, check out The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, available right now at your favorite DRM-free game store, GOG.com.

Have a great weekend!

Leroux: Agreed. I'm happy with my purchase(s) of Botanicula and I'd be willing to give Amanita the benefit od the doubt and forgive them this clumsy move if it weren't for them still withholding the full soundtrack from regular GOG users. Getting a bonus soundtrack in the package is one among GOG's unique selling points, something quite a few customers expect to see here, and especially with a game that draws heavily from the music like Botanicula. That they officially just offer a demo soundtrack to GOG is either a sign of disrespect or ignorance towards their business partner in my eyes. I bet a lot of customers would even pay a little more than $10 for getting the full package, but why pay more for getting less?

The current solution helps to calm the waves with the people who pre-ordered and it gets GOG a lot of brownie points in customer relation but it won't help the future sales of Botanicula here on GOG, another collateral damage caused by Amanita juggling too many balls at once.
If only they pulled HiB six months from now, all be good. This way they lowered the value of the game in the eyes of many in exchange for the coverage HiB gives them.

In Amanita's words, they consider a mistake letting GoG and GG take preorders?!? I can hardly understand how come that was THE mistake.
As I've said before, GOG didn't have to do any of this, but they did it anyway. That's why they'll always be the best.

And while I don't need the extras, I did want to check them out once I got them, but I have a problem with the artbook. Every time I download the zip and try to extract the file I get a "damaged file" error. Is anyone else having this problem?
WOW! GOG does it again. This doesn't affect me but just goes to show what an awesome team GOG has! You guy never cease to amaze me!

It might depends on whether you snag the zip via the Downloader and your browser. Did you check whether the MD5 sum is proper?
Very classy. Kudos to GOG for handling this so well. I wonder will Mach. And TW1 be giftable tho?
I did not preorder the game (though I intend on buying from GOG eventually) but I just wanted to say that this is just one (among many) reasons that I love this website and company so much. They have always had the best interests of customers in mind, they have always been very giving towards us, and they deserve every dollar we can give them.

This isn't even an issue that GOG caused, they're as much victims as the people who preordered. There really was no onus on GOG to do anything at all, but they chose to go a few extra miles just for their customers.

I am actually pretty proud to be part of this community. Every move like this just assures that I'm a loyal customer for life!
Have GOG said anything about whether we can gift the two extra games (at least if we already own them)?

Have not even pre-ordered this game, but due to the giveaways, past treatment from customer service, and general DRM-freeness, if the game I want is here, GOG will get my business over any other retailer :D

ahahaha ninja'd TET... that is a new one :D
I'd forgotten that companies can actually be this great for customers. It's the little things like this that are drawing me from the other digital distribution platforms - and I hope it does for many more. Keep it up.
I come for the old games and I stick around for the awesome commitment to their customers.
