XmXFLUXmX: You would do business with somebody who thinks you're a complete retard with zero impulse control?
He doesn't know me, so he's not talking about me.

Besides I don't see how this'll negatively affect my experience using Gog.com, not to mention that there's always the language barrier which may mean his opinion can be slightly misunderstood.

Ubisoft thinks we're all dirty pirates, but I still bought their DRM free games. Why on earth shouldn't I vote with my wallet instead of acting all butthurt about some stranger's opinion?

That's about equal to saying he doesn't have a clue what he's talking about then. :)

Haha, I suppose! The point I was trying to make is that I don't get offended over fairly innocent generalizations about a group that I happen to belong to. People working at Gog.com are entitled to their opinions just like the rest of us, I don't have to agree with them as long as I like what they sell.

Sounds fair enough ^^

By the way he pointed couple of points we forgot to mention here ;) Listen from 6:50 to 7:45... this point is kinda bad really for some devs ;)
Lost in all this is that if you compare the titles offered on GOG and on Steam, GOG's prices are better (typically $6 or older titles vs. $10 on Steam).

50% off $6 - $3
75% off $10 - $2.50

Steam marketing makes you think their sales are resoundingly better when in reality the full prices are marked up compared to GOG.

How this will translate to newer titles, we can only wait and see.

That depends on the game I think. A lot of them are simply priced the same. (in dollars)

Fallout
MDK
Serious Sam

Just to name a few. Some are priced the same, but GOG has the edge in full retail price on the majority of the older games.

Oddworld Abe's Exodus GOG: $5.99 , Steam $4.99
Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich GOG $5.99, Steam $4.99
Beyond Good and Evil is equal on GOG in US dollars ($9.99), but in Euro's it's only €4.99 on Steam
Arx Fatalis GOG $5.99, Steam $4.99

My point is, there's examples that go both ways, but I'd say the bulk is 1:1 (from what I checked)

The biggest problem GOG still has is where other retailers offer collections and GOG doesn't. (Like the D&D Master Edition, Cyan Worlds pack etc.)

$1 edge to Steam on a few titles.

$4 edge to GOG on most older titles.

Yup, 1:1...

Even if some of the steam versions is a bit cheaper compared to the GOG ones, it's still a no-brainer, imho. I will always buy software that have no strings attached.
1) Steam, GamersGate and other major digital distributors can afford higher discounts since their customer base is much larger than GOG's.

2) Steam, GamersGate and other major digital distributors sell way more games, at various price points, many games being much more expensive than anything offered on GOG.com. in order for these more expensive games to come into the "insta-buy" range, higher discounts are necessary.

Glad you ignored the point. Most are priced the same, some are priced better on GOG, some are priced better on other retailers. GOG's sales are average 40-50%, other retailers generally higher.

I'll pay the extra $0.50 to actually, you know, OWN the games instead of renting them from Steam.

Steamheads simply can't comprehend this. They are renting from a company that says it can shut down their account at any time. How would people have felt if a store barged into your home, grabbed all your CD-ROMs, and left without explanation? That's what Steam has the power to do.

But nevermind because HATS, AND GABEN, AND MOAR HATS, AND OMG STEAM SALE MY WALLET LOL. I OWN SO MANY GAMES THAT I DON'T PLAY BUT THEY'RE ALL IN MY STEAM ACCOUNT SO I CAN LOOK AT THE ICONS IN THE LIST.

Valve has done very well to appeal to teenagers who have no concept of long-term effects. It's quite a good business model. Unfortunately the rest of us who are rational in our shopping will eventually pay the price for the monopoly others have given to Steam.
