Solei: Even if some of the steam versions is a bit cheaper compared to the GOG ones, it's still a no-brainer, imho. I will always buy software that have no strings attached.
I'll pay the extra $0.50 to actually, you know, OWN the games instead of renting them from Steam.
Steamheads simply can't comprehend this. They are renting from a company that says it can shut down their account at any time. How would people have felt if a store barged into your home, grabbed all your CD-ROMs, and left without explanation? That's what Steam has the power to do.
But nevermind because HATS, AND GABEN, AND MOAR HATS, AND OMG STEAM SALE MY WALLET LOL. I OWN SO MANY GAMES THAT I DON'T PLAY BUT THEY'RE ALL IN MY STEAM ACCOUNT SO I CAN LOOK AT THE ICONS IN THE LIST.
Valve has done very well to appeal to teenagers who have no concept of long-term effects. It's quite a good business model. Unfortunately the rest of us who are rational in our shopping will eventually pay the price for the monopoly others have given to Steam.
