SLP2000: But on the other hand - should they really care if they lose 1$ sale?
But they're not losing $1. They're losing $5.
avatar
gameon: I have to point out to people though, that a small company can become a big company if successful. GOG.com has the potential to be a big company, so i would hope it doesn't lose its "small scale" roots. Theres the saying "remember where you come from"

spinefarm: I have a question for all the people spiting at GOG atm... Steam started officialy 2004,so for 8 years out there Steam become a major part of digital distribution market.
So my question is: Steam started the big price drop disscounts from year???

Let us see your answers :)
Steam didn't tell us that we need to pay more to get an "emotional attachment". I don't care wether gog has big sales or not it is just pants on head retarded to attack others for having them. And you still act like a sheep and cherrypick arguments.

Answer my question :) And then read again TET's post and think for a... 10-20minutes before answering ;)

excalibunny: Where are you from? You diction is very bizarre. You come off as a strange person. I don't know the year, but I know that Steam is the leader of digital games, and that's all that matters in my point. Let me also point out that your gabe bashing was unwarranted back there, he seems like a cool guy.
Gabe Newell is a cool guy ... like Bill Gates and Cliffie B right? :)
Steam is a leader because it's a pioneer in the digital market. My point was that you can't expect GOG making such pricedrops yet. If they grow with the tempo they are growing... We will see pricedrops like that here sooner than you think.
For now 50-66% off is pretty damn good in my eyes.

And btw GOG have one big plus over Steam - they know that 1$ is not equal to 1 euro/pound :)

Exactly. The idea for paying more for having emotional attachment, is like tying your shoes to tight so they feel better when you take them off.

You are now saying that they are just biding their time till they can do the same thing that at the moment they are calling harmful. And ... it would be fine if they did this ... why exactly? Assuming that were true you don't find that hypocritical? Or is it fine because you like GOG?

And this thread is not about having an issue with them not offering higher sales. It's about them putting down those sales as a bad thing.

And yes, I highly doubt you have a clue what any of those people you mentioned are *actually* like so badmouthing them is just poor form.

spinefarm: My question was for people having issues with GOG pricing. For me GOG is a better alternative of Steam if they keep bringing good games to us I will be even happier :)
avatar
excalibunny: Yes, but what about 3-4 year old games for 20 dollars?

Also, about the emotional disconnect at lowered prices gog fans are arguing about. The same thing has been said about digital media. That with out having something physical from the purchase it matters less to people, because it is less tangible. I think this is also bullshit, but some people make a good argument.
The same game sells on Steam on same price so where is the problem? Yes slightly cheaper for EU...

About the emotional disconnect and TET's attacks for Steam... He have his point of view.

THAT. IS. NOT. THE. POINT.

Let me lay it out as simple as possible for you.

1. Gog attacked steam for having lower prices in a way that only the most philosophical fanboy could argue for.

2. GOG has dropped their original name and mission statement to compete with steam. They want to compete with steam, without competing with prices. They want their cake, and to eat it too.

3. GOG has been very unclassy with their attacks.

excalibunny: It's weird because games have been overpriced for years. Dude, a lot of these games are old. You're getting older. You can go to your local walmart and find Pulp Fiction and Terminator 2 on discount for $3 at times. When games get older, the price should drop, just like any form of media. The demand lowers, so should the price. It's not rocket science.
I responded to your post tactfully. Please don't talk down to me with comments like "it's not rocket science." I'm not a simpleton and can surely understand the influence of demand on pricing. I am simply highlighting that it's not always that simple. It is not always the case that price drops over time though. There are games that retain their value. Titles by companies like Nintendo or Blizzard hardly ever seem to drop much in price. In fact, in the average PC section of a retailer, the only older games I ever even see are Diablo, Warcraft, and Starcraft. I don't think these games are inherently better than others that sell for less, but they have managed to create enough perceived value that they continue to be sold for longer and for more money than many of their contemporaries.

If they become second Steam... I don't know...maybe I will stick with them... Time will tell.
And yes it will be hypocritical if TET comes out then and says: Hey ppl pricedrops are good for games :)

So let me put it this way
1. You have a new shop and you have Wallmart in the neighbourhood ... Will you or will you not attack them for pricedroping an item that have bigger value.

2. Mmm I still don't believe that GOG have such a big voice infront of the publishers,to make pricedrops like that. Yes they want to play with the big boy,but I don't see something wrong with that.

3.And Valve are classy with all the idiotic descisions they make in the last 2-3 years?

Sorry but you and Pheace sound like a steam fanboy's for sure... and the bad part is that you don't like Steam as digital distribution, you just like the disscounts.

No.... I never said anything about them becoming the second Steam. YOU said they'd be offering high discounts when GOG gets bigger. Despite GOG at the moment saying that that is bad for the gaming Industry. *THAT* would be hypocritical then if it would be so...

Good lord, you're so full of it. Always making up crap about other people. I'm just going to downrate your posts from now on I think. You completely ignore what people are talking about and attack them or call them fanboys, drum up arguments that have nothing to do with anything but to try and cast other portals in a bad light.

Yes I like Steam, and yes I like the discounts, but contrary to your bull I like Steam just fine for the way it handles digital distribution.

And wtf are you doing here? Go to Steam and stay there ffs :)

Because unlike someone like you I am able to handle being on both Steam and GOG. Both fulfill it's own purpose for me.

Are you so much of an argumentative fanboy that you can't see that people would like steam and gog both for their own reasons? GOG has been great for the niche market it provides for, steam is great for other reasons. I also have to ask you: What idiotic decisions has steam made?

gameon: Sorry to but in here. Even if some people say stuff that in some way offends me. I like to give them the benefit of the doubt. Downposting a particular users posts no matter what they say is a little harsh. Maybe some people value their rep number?
I didn't say I was downrating every post no matter what they said.

This one for instance I just left as is as it's perfectly fine:

It's the ones filled with attacks or cursewords, or telling people to get out. Which are quite a few of them sadly.
