Amerika-p4l: I purchased Alan Wake yesterday. GoG had the game for 15 dollars which also came with 25% off the upcoming expansion. Naturally I was stoked to get such a great deal for a game that has been praised pretty heavily.
Well, Alan Wake is advertised everywhere as a Steamworks game. Steam has it and if you purchase from Amazon.com the game requires Steam activation so I assumed when I bought through GoG the game would also have the option for Steam support/activation.

Firek: While I wouldn't personally think of sticking to our rules as having "no integrity", I went through your case with my superior and, upon closer review, we have decided to make an exception and grant your refund request.
We will contact you in a few minutes, to verify some payment info before we can issue the refund.
Do keep in mind, though, that no game on GOG comes with a means of Steam activation, and we don't have any immediate plans of adding such a feature.
We're all about DRM-free games with as many bonus goodies as we can get our hands on. Plus, we've got
our own digital distribution infrastructure. ;)
Hope you don't have any hard feelings towards GOG after all this hassle, and in case you ever decide that Steam activations aren't that big of a deal... :)
Thank you Firek. I appreciate it.
I do believe I was justified with my thread title. Look at it from my end. I go directly to a link to a game on a site called "Good Old Games" and see Alan Wake for a good price and then a hell of a deal on the upcoming expansion. I see nothing about DRM on that page (there isn't anything) and I don't seek out the sites policy on DRM and instead just did a Google search to see if Alan Wake was a Steamworks title (it is). Thinking I could purchase it from a "good old games" site without issue like I could Amazon I hastily decided to give you guys a try without knowing that the site only sells games sans all forms of DRM...including Steam.
I then realize my error within minutes and immediately make a support ticket. And then wait a day for a response that was only a few characters long and didn't appear to take into consideration what I wrote in that ticket (or even include the ticket) or the time frame in which it was submitted. It appeared to me to be the equivalent of, "you clicked a link so your money is ours now" without even pointing out reasoning or policies. Then later after admitting you do not have use of any of the basic tools a Support team would need to rectify issues like this (I don't blame Support at all...I do blame GoG.com though). I still can't believe you do not have access to something as simple as tracking user clicks on an account, bandwidth usage through the account or even time stamps.
So yeah, you can probably understand my frustration. Especially when I was perfectly fine keeping my money here as GoG has a TON of games that I can't get anywhere else. I mean, Planescape Torment for 10 bucks? Oh hell yes.
I do appreciate you guys looking into it though. I am now glad that I didn't go ahead and download Alan Wake and after a day or two I'll realize me being mad at GoG isn't in my best interest as you guys have a hell of a catalog here and I do like the library page quite a little bit.
To all of you who took an objective look at the situation I thank you. To all of you who loyally fought for the site against all reason...well, I can at least respect that and I understand.
Sorry to have caused trouble. I am a pretty mild person IRL but I can be stubborn when it comes to certain principles and it can get me into trouble.
Take care all.
