I thought about trying to find out, but decided against it in the end - I thought knowing who the mafia were might have spoiled it for me somewhat.

Really enjoyed it, even though I got lynched early.

Zchinque: As I said earlier, if some one wants to host a game, and want some help, either PM me or look me up on Steam. That said, I would normally suggest having 2-3 games under ones belt before hosting.

If there are no takers, I'll start signups for another game in two days or so.

I'll be back later with thoughts and comments on the game, but now I need to catch a nap.

Except...
@Robbeasy: I was very disappointed to see you get lynched when you did, as at the time you were pretty much the only player making any kind of sense, while the rest of the town (no offense) ran around like headless chickens.
I am not super comfortable with it (I've only played through a bit of my first game on Mafiascum) but I have read a good number of games there now, and if you would much prefer to play instead of mod I could give a shot at putting things together.

May cat.. er chicken out though if I can't come up with a satisfactory setup. Though I suspect I may be able to just steal a setup from the common MS ones anyway and write up some flavour. But better someone else with more experience try if there's one. ;)

Whew. ;)

First off, a big congrats to eyeball. He really got through when it was most needed. Awesome man. I was fairly disgusted with my role in the breakup of our team, but the last link made it through. For the most part, it was fun watching the whole "town" guessing right and left for the mafia, and it was efffing hard to stay in character and try to shake the blame on someone else. Also, nmillar gets full praise for his part in making our (the mafia) work really difficult for most of the latter stages of the game. He made the right assumptions about who's who, and put constant pressure on the front. But let's not fool ourselves - we the mafia mostly won through sheer force of luck. It was a good game to watch unfold and congratulations to everyone for playing their part.

First of all I would like to thank all the players for being so committed to the game, even if I wasn't always all that happy with the activity level. :p But, that said, only one replacement in the first game on a site is pretty remarkable. Well done, all around!

I also hope you had fun, and I hope to see you in another game in not too long. ;)

About the setup

For those who don't pay attention, the setup was:

1 cop
1 doc
1 1-shot vigilante
6 vanillas

vs.

1 roleblocker
2 vanilla goons

I find this setup to be excellent in games with lots of newbies (in fact, on the forum where I used to play, this setup, or a variation of it, was used in almost every newb game). There's very little swingyness in it, and due to a high amount of vanilla roles it encourages players to train some critical mafia skills - analysis and critical thinking. Still there are power roles, which have become an important part in most mafia games these days, to play with and play around. The vig, typically a high risk, high reward role, is countered by the setup having an even number of players, making it so that even if he mis-vigs, he doesn't cost the town a day (assuming the town actually use their lynch each day).
On the mafia's side, their only power role is the roleblocker, who is only as powerful as what is present on the town's side. So even if the town power roles die early, like they did in this game, the mafia don't have the tools to completely dominate the game.

More to come later.
That was fun! I kind of stopped paying attention after I died which probably detracted from the post-life enjoyment of the game, but I still read the events.
